I shot these with a Raynox Macro attachment, on site, using a flash. You will notice the very small dof in #1, even at f16. The flower is about 3" across & the tiny bud in #2 (on the same tree) is about 5/16" in diameter. It is amazing that such a tiny bud grows into such a large flower. Downloading is recommended.

That bud looks like a purple cigar!

Nice group, Earl!

Beautiful color and a great lesson in DOF, Earl. I shot a flower at f/4.5 yesterday from several feet away, and all my subject was in focus leaving the background OOF.

Thanks, Donna. The front of my lens was only 2" from the flower & the only way I would get a larger dof would be a multi stack. However, I was outdoors with a wind blowing, so this was out of the question. I would like to repeat this shot indoors (where there's no wind & it's air conditioned, lol) & do a stack on the center of the flower. Earl.

Earl, I was just pointing out the difference in the DOF in relation to how close you are from the subject. In other words, it's not just the aperture that makes the difference in how much is in focus. It's the distance too. That was all. I guess I wasn't clear.

Yes, you are totally correct, Donna--I was on a slightly different wave length at the time, as I often am, lol. You do make a valid point.

I just didn't want you to think I was being critical.

Gorgeous, Earl. You're getting a little abstract in your old age! These are truly beauties, excellent colors and details. I'd love to see more like this.
