I am looking to purchase a Nikon D7200. If looking at a used one , what should the highest shutter count be before saying no? Also not sure about a refurbished one ? Thoughts on this. Thanks, Brian

Brian, I just purchased one the other day. I got it refurbished, however the company is a "Certified Refurbishing" dealer. That does make a difference, IMHO. The shutter clicks were at zero when I received it. I have the business info if you are interested. I am very pleased as this body looks brand new and functions perfectly. The only issues I have is that Lightroom 5 (5.7.1) does not recognize the RAW format it generates. Through my research I have found that you have to download the Adobe DNG converter to be able to use Lightroom 5. Lightroom 6 and CC both are able to read this RAW info though. Another step added to my workflow I guess. Take care and happy shooting!

Why don't you use Nikon Capture NX-I and NX-D (both free) instead of the converter then transfer them to Lightroom. The advantage would be to preview what you have make some minor corrections and weed out the keepers and discard the losers before Lightroom.

Be cautious of refurbished that are not "factory refurbished" directly by Nikon. There are many scammers out there selling "refurbished" cameras and that term itself means absolutely nothing at all and you usually end up with a grey market product, which you do NOT want.
As for used, the D7200 has a listed average shutter life expectancy of 150,000 clicks, and the shutter count on Nikon's is super simple to determine. Try to find one under 50k to make sure it has plenty of life left.

Nikon is currently having a sale. Cameta is offering it with a one year warranty. Look around.

I bought mine from Nikon. They had a refurb sale at the time ($699.00). It had apx 2700 clicks. I love this camera.

Refurbs, if they state that they are Nikon factory refurbished, are great. I have purchased three Nikon refurbs and they may as well have been new. In fact better than new as they have spent time on an individual tech bench. I usually buy refurbs from Cameta Camera as they have given me great service and support. They are much smaller than A or B.

Minutes ago I posted a new link with direct purchase from Nikon USA,ends today. I bought a D7100 refurb from Cameta a few years ago. They are a little higher than going directly to Nikon, but I think they offer a 1 year warranty.

I look for refurbished first, but you're not going to get a shutter count ahead of time. When buying used, on ebay, I never bid till I get the shutter count. I have bought cameras with under 100 clicks, used and refurbished. The highest count was about 1,700. The shutter count is not reset.

Cameta doesn't charge sales tax outside their area. That's a big savings also, something to consider.

With 10% off, that brings the price down to $719.99, a great price for this body. I bought mine refurbished and it had 15 clicks on the shutter. Nikon's sales will be done at the end of today.

Hey Brian, this should give you a good idea as to what your D7200 is capable of, then you can pick a number you're comfortable with when making a purchase of a used Nikon camera body. This is an excerpt from Nikonusa website.

The term Mean is referring to a mathematical average and not to an exact number- the actual amount may be higher or lower. We have compiled a short list of several Nikon models and the test data for each. Data is only available for the models listed below.

DSLR Model Estimated number of Shutter Actuations
 D5 tested to 400,000 cycles
 D4S, D4 tested to 400,000 cycles
D3, D3S, D3X tested to 300,000 cycles
 D810A tested to 200,000 cycles
 D810 tested to 200,000 cycles
 D800, D800E tested to 200,000 cycles
 Df tested to 150,000 cycles
 D750 tested to 150,000 cycles
 D700 tested to 150,000 cycles
 D600 / D610 tested to 150,000 cycles
 D500 tested to 200,000 cycles
D300 / D300s tested to 150,000 cycles
 D7000, D7100, D7200 tested to 150,000 cycles
D90 tested to over 100,000 cycles
 D3000, D3100, D3200, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500 tested to over 100,000 cycles
Nikon1 Estimated number of Shutter Actuations V1, V2, V3 tested to over 100, 000 cycles

Link: https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_article?lang=en_US&articleNo=000003332

Per Nikon's list the D7200 has been factory tested to 150,000 actuations as it's mean time between failures.
