Over or under has been solved.
One exception. Not good for unruly cats.
Yes, I found out about cats the hard way....
A difference of opinions at my house! I wisely gave up.
Now that we no longer have a cat, I no longer care.
the illustration is the wrong way
Our cats have never developed the "unroll it" syndrome. They go in to get groomed by Mama, my wife has to keep brushes etc on the counter. When they come in and see me they leave or sit on the scale and stare at me hoping I will reach for the brushes. (Door catch is a little out of line and sometimes doesn't engage so they can get in by pushing on the door.)

So, fix the door catch. Easy peasy.

Duh! Would never have thought of that on my own.
1. I have done it several times, house on a slab and with the wet, drought, wet cycle it settles and warps the frame. Same problem with other doors and windows in the house. It is older (1964) and so am I, now we just exist together in comfort.
2. Gives my wife something to do, and she gets bonding time with our three cats (all female). From me they want food, from Mama they want pampering.

We had a dog that did this.
I am not popular in my house. I use it the way it was patented. I change it a lot and hear exasperated groans a lot.

One cat yells at the door and has to come in and drink water running out of the faucet.
The other 2 reach under the door and want to play with the robe tie.

There simply is no right or wrong direction, both are right, because its a thing of preference!
an interior decorator once told me that having the loose tail hanging out
in the middle of the room made the bathroom look messy and cluttered.
Not good sticking to the bottom of your shoe as you walk out either.
