Very nice shots! But regarding owning one, unless some shop has started making them with Fiberglass hull, aren't the all old wooden hulls with more modern cabins and conveniences added? The hull maintenance has to be some serious money, and fuel consumption, even if it is diesel powered, also must also to be considerable unless it just stays tied up to the shore.

How costly is fuel on you side of the pond? We are running about $2.25 for regular grade gas and $2.45 for diesel.

Jim, another interesting set with a tempting alternate life style! I'm thinking of buying a motor home to escape triple digit heat in the Summer!

Thanks for looking in Snap Shot i always appreciate it.Glad you liked them.We used to have a caravan and had lots of holidays all over the country but unfortunately it became hard work for us so we gave it up and now go on coaching holidays.A motor home is the ideal way to use for your holiday weeks and weekends and to be honest i thought of getting one myself but decided not to,we're getting a bit old for it these days.

You've hit the nail on the head JCAM they are very expensive to buy,for a new one and very expensive to run,I've seen figures of Two hundred thousand pounds mentioned and that's way out of my league, plus you have the cost of running it plus mooring fees.A lot of people buy one second hand and just keep it moored up all the time and just use it for holidays or live in one permanent. The average price for a litre of diesel today is £1.22 . Thanks for looking in JCAM I appreciate it. Glad you liked them.

Angler, Ouch! If my conversion is correct that's about $6.00/ gallon; even at my .5-.6/gal per hour at cruising speed that could tend to lessen cruising ranges. The prices here in the US got up near that point some years back, and a lot of thirsty power boats became floating condos or drinking retreats. Fortunately those prices seem to be history. Slip or dock fees here are generally based upon the length of the vessel; my slip is about $1900.00 for our 32 footer for a full year. Transient slip fees run about $1.50/foot/night. Here off the Chesapeake Bay we don't usually get any serious ice in the marina and the 'Ice Eaters' easily handle what freezes so I tend to leave the boat in the water on alternating winters, then pay a diver to scrub the bottom in the spring.

I seem to recall several years back there were, maybe still are, some canal boats that could be rented on the Erie Canal in New York, but I don't know if the rental price included fuel.
