Hi! My name is Alejandro, I'm from Argentina and I started traveling last year (Jan 7th 2016).
So, after one year away from home, I'm sitting in a hostel in Kuta-Bali trying to get a better grip on my photography! I started my trip in Brazil, went to Rio, Sao Paulo and other small cities, but I didn't have a camera with me, so I managed to take a few pictures with my phone (Samsung S2, yeah, it was already an old model by then) the pictures were good but there's so much you can do with a phone's camera. The day I got to the airport to fly to New Zealand is the day i bought my first (and only, so far) DSLR camera, a Nikon D3200 standard kit with a 18-55mm lens. Of course there were higher models available, but they were expensive! Not within the budget of a backpacker, or for a beginner in regards to photography. I believe some of you will remember the day you got your first "professional" camera... don't you? When you first opened the box and started putting it together, battery, lens... When you first turned it on and started playing with all the settings and going as deep as you could in every possible menu's option... Well, I know that's what happened to me. I was a kid in Christmas morning! Naturally, I couldn't wait to start taking pictures with it! So the first pictures my camera took, were from the inside of the A-320 taking me to Chile for my connection to Auckland. I have to confess myself a bit disappointed, not of the camera, but of the pictures I took... really bad! I didn't have too much of a chance to keep messing around with it because the battery died after a few mins, but as soon as I got to NZ I plugged it in to recharge it. It took me a while to learn where everything was, and it took me even longer to learn how to shoot a proper photo (and I'm still learning). I've been to so many beautiful places in NZ and I got SO let down every time I tried to take a picture of those places and it didn't came out the way I saw it in real life. Somewhere I read that shooting in manual mode is the slowest shooting you get, because you need to set up the camera for a specific scenery, and two pictures are never the same, blah blah... All this might be true but it didn't help to get my spirit up after my first few pictures. So I changed to Auto mode for a while and tried to capture the moment first and then I started messing around again with the manual mode and changing settings to try and match the picture taken in auto mode. Eventually I learned, a bit, more out of experience than out of theory because I didn't do much reading then, and now that I'm a bit more comfortable with the camera, I started reading photography blogs, trying to get tips or even to take an online course of photography to polish my raw edges... And that's how I got here! This web looks amazing for people like me who are looking for help and tips from people who are in the trade. I'm sure I'll bother the community a few times in the short time with some advise on new acquisitions or tips to get a better picture :)

What an adverture you are on ... many thanks for sharing ... I look forward to reading many more of your postings and hearing about your photographic adventures ... !
There are a great many teaching videos on the web ... if you log onto YouTube and type in the subject you are interested I'm pretty sure you will be flooded with information and, of course, we have members here who will be able to provide first hand knowledge of most anything you could ask ...
Be safe and keep your posts (and pictures) coming and remember you are never a bother ...
