Updating to another Canon Powershot

Hello,

I currently have the Canon Powershot SX170IS.

This was the last model in this series.

I am thinking of updating to another in the Canon Pdwershot line.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I may want to update to a model that can shoot in Raw.

Thank you

Most folks on this site rave about the SX50 and SX60. You may be able to get either one at the Canon Refurbished Cameras site. Good luck.

Money could be the determining factor.

If budget is tight: I was impressed by the sx520. Seemed like a lot of choices, including exposure compensation, for the money.

But if you can snag an sx50 or sx60 refurbished, it will be oh-so worth it! Not only raw, but viewfinder! I have both. The viewfinder is better on the 60, but the added focal length isn't worth it because not particularly sharp + that much harder to hold it steady.

I purchased each direct from Canon, with one-year warranty. I also had the sx50 new, but managed to wear it out after just over a year (something like 30,000 snaps because I was using burst mode all the time: 4 - 8 photos for every button push, lol + I found soooo many distant critter and bird photo ops to pursue after years without a zoom).

I have the SX 60 and am very pleased with the camera. Here is a look at it for your convenience: https://www.dpreview.com/search/?query=sx60&product=canon_sx60hs

In the power shot series that do raw I have the G1X II and the SX60HS. The G1X II is more like an oversized pocket camera and the SX60HS is more like a compact DSLR sans removable lens, plus it costs less.

Ditto ... if you are upgrading the powershot line ...refurb for sure to keep the cost down ...

Virtue of canon cameras is that the internal programs can be modified to do things canon never dreamed of except in a sour pickle dream. Really opens doors within the canon menu. The changes disappear when rebooting the camera or when Jerry [Known to the CIA and JerryC41] starts his truck.

I have the SX60. It's an excellent camera and will certainly shoot RAW. I use it for ease of carrying when I don't want to lug my other equipment. You may want to check the classified for possible one for sale or Canon refurbished for savings.

I started with an sx5is (which I still have, then an sx10is, (which I sold) then an sx40, (which I just sold) Now have an sx60 which I love. It does all that I need to do, with no fuss or bother. If it died or got lost, would buy another.

Sounds like the sx70is will be coming soon Might have 100x zoom, should have 20 megapixels, what else I do not know, but is should stir up the sx60 is market. at 100 x zoom will be hard to use hand held, but should be a better pic at 65x zoom than the sx60is is.
