I use B&H for equipment and Red River for paper; not because I've had a problem with Adorama, but if almost everyone seems to consider B&H as their prime "go to" supplier, who am I to argue, and I'm too far away to explore either one.

The Visa Prepaid Card sounds like a good option too,

A friend is being published in Arizona Highways in March, and I'm going to present her with a gift card. She's a Canon user. I'm wondering if anybody who shoots with Canon has a preference between these two stores?

I'm asking only because when I bought my computer monitor a couple of years ago, Adorama didn't even offer it. I realize that in terms of prices, service, and reliability, they are in a dead heat. But I'm asking to find out if one is considered stronger than the other in terms of selling Canon products. They're probably even there as well, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Either one is fine. I probably buy more from B&H though.

Been a Canon owner and a customer of B&H for many years and am 100% satisfied with B&H Camera. Heard good things about Adorama but have never used them. Stay away from 42nd ST Photo as they are not Canon authorized dealers and sell ''gray market'' Canon products.

I prefer Adorama because they do not shut off their web site to ordering during the Sabboth and holidays. But sometimes B&H has a better deal so I will buy from them.

I actually prefer Cameta for refurb gear because they automatically up the warranty to one year.

I prefer Adorama but probably for way different reasons than most would think. When it comes to education, Adorama kicks the pants off of B&H with their Adorama TV and Mark Wallace!!!
I would like to keep that coming and see it get even better. If I want to see a video on studio shooting, I wouldn't even waste my time at B&H.
One would think that with the millions of dollars we put into their coffers, B&H's community outreach would be a bit stronger!
My vote's for Adorama and that's why I prefer them. They will ALL take your money!!!

For all of SS's reasons, I prefer Adorama. Cameta does not have the educational material. However, just on the quality of my transactions, I would not ignore them. They are first rate.

I also like to see employees being treated well. B&H has been having troubles because of its treatment of the warehouse and shipping employees. That's unfortunate but true. So I generally won't buy from B&H unless I can't find something somewhere else. And I used to buy from them a lot.

BnH is great. I have been buying from them for about ten years. As far as quality of their products and customer service you wont find better.
With a local store you really need to check the prices with BnH or Adorama before you buy, some will match their prices and others wont. You also don't get the same kind of return policy. With BnH you can use what you buy for a month and still return it for a full refund. Try doing that with a local camera store.

My vote is for B&H as I have used both; they have wonderful customer service, a real person on the phone and have used for many years ... If I can't buy local, B&H will get my business.

Thank you. We are grateful for this and for the others here who spoke well of us.

Regarding educational opportunities, B&H offers daily presentations in our dedicated "Event Space" and most are available online either in real time or soon thereafter. We have an extensive blog system at https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/, a dedicated Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/BHPhotoVideoProAudio and several other educational options.

I might be replacing one lens and buying another lens I have wanted for a while. Both are Canon L series. I'm not even considering buying from anywhere but BnH

Adorama, and B&H are both Canon authorized dealers, and both offer great deals from time to time. Both also carry other branded lenses, bags, and other accessories, like filters, straps, tripods, and heads. Neither company charges sales tax on out of state sales at this time. This gives your gift the most bang for the dollar. Be careful of where you buy a gift card, they sometime add sales tax to the value of the card, so as to get you to pre-pay the tax.

Been doing business with B&H for years, with no regrets. Not near as much business with Adorama, but again no regrets. As a gift though, I like the idea of a gift card for your local camera store. With as much business I conduct on line, I still spend plenty of money at the local camera store. There's nothing like walking in the door and have the clerk and or the store owner call you by name and know just what kind of equipment you use and how you use it.

Hunt's in the New England area is also good, with the same prices. They also don't charge sales tax if out of state. We still use B&H more often, though. We did buy two Panasonic GX8 cameras from Hunts in San Antonio since Hunts had it all on display.

I would go with Greg's Camera just because going to a local store and getting to handle the "toys" before buying is so much fun.
