It certainly held my interest enough to download and wonder at the engineering. Do you know the reason?

And my, that looks like a very busy sky for air traffic!

It's almost as if the sky's mirroring the ground. And it looks like that ground is six inches above the water table.

They probably just dug the ditches at the lowest points where the water lays, these were dug upwards of 150 years ago.

The air traffic? We live under the main air routes from Europe and the UK to the US (and back again)

And sometime between now and spring it will be several feet below water.

I have hundreds of pictures of the fens and the washes including some flooding which might be of interest. I will have to get a few together and upload them to one of my web pages.

This was taken in 2012 but from the opposite bank you see on the horizon.
