Does this type of processing look appropriate for a black background...
I'm doing Posters for a basketball team and thought it might be kinda cool to do some heavy processing on the pictures so they don't have a Senior Photo type look. This is just kid in front of some lights. Nothing more than a warm body to get a feel for how it looks. Not even cropped. It's the Calvin Hollywood FAD technique. It looks pretty good on ally ways and industrial environments but I'm not really sure about it for just a black muslin back ground. It's 3-point lighting with a beauty dish and two gridded strip boxes without diffusion panels. So, what do you guys think? Should I use it?
It makes them stand out .
It makes them stand out . show one. To them get their view on it.
Yea. I'm going to do that but I wanted a photographer's point of view too.

You could take picture their court with the goals. Or just use goals with black background. Or the the front of school with the schools name for back ground
I like the photo and background, it is crisp and focuses all eyes to the subject. As a stand alone photo is is very nice. However, it does not tell a story. To me you need to have some context to draw a person to the story, not just the subject.
Well, it's a poster that gets displayed in a gym. So, on top, there will be a graphic that states the name, class (jr. sr. etc), and number. This is just a rough facsimile of a pose. They will be doing 3 different poses and choose the one they like best. The story is in the pose. Like I said, just a kid in front of some lights. :-)
I thought of that too late. I really thought a location setting would be cool but the shoot is tomorrow (12/17). So, gotta go with what I got.

I like the technique. Not sure about the facial expression.
Well, she's just there to stand in. :-)
I think you should lighten the shadow under the chin and bring back the skin tones
