Hey Hoggers I need your expert opinions. Last year my 7100 which I really liked was stolen!! Since then I have been using a 3200. Now ready to get a new camera. I mainly shoot Events, Street Lifestyles, Portraits and Nature. Trying to decide on another 7100 or should I go for the 7200.Has anyone had experience with both cameras? Is the 7200 really worth the upgrade? Are there major differences? After a ton of research on both cameras I am still not convinced one way or another. I do like the idea of built in WiFi on the 7200 as I like to share my photos. I tried the plug in Wifi on the 7100 and was dissapointed in its performance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I know you guys are not bias one way or another. Thanks

Sorry about your loss. The D7200 isn't much of an upgrade...but it is an upgrade. To me the most important additions to the D7200 is better low light shooting and more shots per charge. Everything else is pretty much the same. I hate to tell someone not to get a certain camera but if it were me...I would save save some money and get the D7100. Good luck.

Right now you can get a refurbished Nikon D7200 from B&H for $789. Unless they are sold out. You get a 90 day warranty which is enough time to determine if it will fail on you. Second, it is not gray market. Third, the D7200 is Nikon's second best DX camera, next to the $1800 D500. Fourth. The buffer on the D7200 is better than the D7100. That's all I have to say.

I upgraded from a D7000. I love this new camera. Extra buffer and low light enhancement plus faster autofocus make this camera a nice upgrade from the 7000 or the 7100 in my opinion. If you like action photography, go for it.

Improved dynamic range that is noticeable especially with high ISOs or in low light, better low light performance both in terms of focusing and picture quality, deeper buffer and wi-fi are the most obvious improvements provided on the 7200. However, in good light it might be impossible to discern a performance difference.

You are describing a valid difference between the D7000 and either the D7100 or the D7200. In terms of dynamic range, high ISO and low light the D7100 and D7200 are virtually the same. The D7200 has a larger memory buffer.

So Jim what you are saying is the picture quality and sharpness is the same? I am concerned about low light capabilities as I shoot in a lot of bars and nightclubs. My little 3200 is struggling. I could do without the wifi as I understand it needs some work anyway. If the picture quality and sharpness is virtually the same I will back to the 7100 and save $ for full frame in the near future. Thanks for the help

Why not go D500 instead of full frame?

The advanced focusing system, fps, shutter, all make it highly attractive. If you're shooting anything that moves this would be the way to go. I just pulled up both the D7200 and D500 on the Nikon sight and they have them both on sale. The D7200 at $999 and the D500 at $1799. I just read a review on a lens by Thom Hogan and it it he just happened to mention that the D7200 had the best resolution in a Nikon camera at 24 mp in a crop camera. So, if you're not going to blow up huge....it would beat the 800's. If a D7200 sensor were to be full frame, it would be 55 mp.

Get the 7200, I got one and love it. You can install Nikon WMU on your smartphone for free. You can take photos using phone, or transfer photos from camera to phone. It's a no brainer if you like to share photos. What's one or two hundred more? Go for it or you will be sorry. Thanks.

The D7200 is a decent upgrade from the D3200 as it will get you many of the "pro" features that the D3200 "D3xxx/D5xxx" lack. As you've already discovered the differences in handling, capabilities etc. As you mentioned, the D7200 has some improvements etc. over the D7100. Personally, I don't use the Wi-Fi on my D7100 or on my D610 as I prefer to upload everything after the shoot and process in Lightroom when I return. I can email, sent to Wi-Fi etc. much easier and with corrections / adjustments from my home computer easier and more reliably and really just don't have the need or care about Wi-Fi. But that is a personal decision and one that you have to decide. For me, my next crop frame camera will be either the follow on to the D7200 or I will look at something like the D500 or whatever it's follow on is. The D7xxx and D500 lines are built much stronger with a heavier duty shutter than the "entry level" D3xxx and D5xxx cameras.

"If it aint broke don't fix it" If the 7100 served you well, the only reason to go for the 7200 would be the greater buffer, but that's only if your shooting style requires it.
I LOVE the 7100 and my move would be to the D500, which is my dream camera. Then I would totally forego the full frame cameras.

Look at some comparisons. Given a choice of older or newer, I usually prefer newer.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.
