Since I was little and read all the Heidi books I have always wanted to go to Switzerland. This was the part of the trip I was most excited about as we were to ride a train to the top of the mountains, where they said on a clear day you can see for 200 miles! WOW well as we arrived I told myself I was not going to let a day of bad weather spoil it for me....Drizzle, fog, and grey skys with no mountains in sight. We were in the beautiful little town of Lucern, with a lovely bridge lined with flowers connecting the two parts of the city almost right out our hotel door. We had a boat ride across the lake to where we got on one of the worlds steepest train rides to the top-- where we could hardly see 20 feet rather than 200 miles! Rode a gondola back down the mountain, spent the evening wandering around town and had a wonderful meal of cheese fondue and a specialty the guide reccomended of fried potatoes, with bacon and cheese on top and an egg. Went well with the beer! YUM YUM
A beautiful church
the lights reflecting with the flowered bridge and a swan--it was perfect excepth that the swan was moving and turned out a bit blurred--dang
a unique looking hotel at night--just plain during the day
a beautiful place we visited , built to honor fallen soldiers during the war
a view of the bridge during the day. many years ago they told us it burnt down due to someone smoking. Our guide said if we burnt it down he would not be responsable!
all the quaint little houses as we rode across the lake. the grass was so grren it looked fake!
train ride to the top
if the skyies had been clear and the mountains surrounding us I know I would have been crying the whole time! As it was we were happy for this 5 seconds of slight clearing so we could see something
another view of the lake without the towering mountains that surround it
I think this turned out to be one of my favorites from the whole trip as we were just out wandering the streets in the rain
These are wonderful photos, great job
Excellent series. I went to Switzerland while I was in the Army. It truly is a beautiful place.
