Hi, Dave,
I like your scene and think that I know exactly where you stood!

I do note in the download that the snow geese, like snow, tend to be susceptible to clipped highlight detail. Were these shot in raw? if so, I suspect that's easily remedied.

The perspective appears to have been from the car park level and down toward the water level rather than from lower and closer to the water. A lower perspective could allow that beautiful tree to break the skyline of the background hills for a more pleasing composition.

And I agree that the green chili cheeseburger at the Buckhorn is a great lunch after a cold morning at the Bosque!

I hope to be there sometime in January; maybe see you there!

best regards,
Dave

I had not noticed the tree line issue until you mentioned it. I appreciate the comment. I will have to be more observant in the future.

Thank you for your time and effort.

This is an incredibly difficult shot the way you shot it, Dave. The conditions would have to be perfect to nail it. It looks to me as though you had sufficient DOF for the shot, but I am guessing you had to sacrifice some shutter speed and crank up the ISO a bit. The noise has destroyed some detail in the birds, or maybe it is just the highlight clipping that Dave mentioned. The bark has nice detail in some areas, but I suspect wind was moving smaller branches as the detail is not as sharp in those. I am wishing for a shot that doesn't cut off any of the birds in the middle of their bodies or cut off the edge of the tree. It is a wonderful scene .. I guess if I had been there I would have tried to focus in on a smaller portion of the scene as well. Sometimes you can say much more with less.
