Looks like it should work fine. It is nothing more than a Bahtinov mask except that it now mounts in a filter holder. Many have been using the Bahtinov mask with telescopes with great success.

I saw an ad for this a few weeks ago, and have been thinking about it. Not sure if I really can afford the cost, plus the filter holder, for the limited use it would give me, though. I mean, the limited use I would give *it*, actually!

It makes sense! I do not trust my eyes anymore and depend on focusing aids. The Bahtinov mask serves me well when I use it and this too looks like it would render the same results. Expense....well crap - the hobby ...in fact all hobbies, seem to cost a little more than I really want to pay.....but I usually end up buckling and find some weird excuse why I can justify these gadget expenses. So, I am broke but happy!

In short - go for it! - I too just ordered it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!!!!!!!

I love this forum and the folks on it!

As for a filter holder, they come cheap on eBay:

Complete ND 2 4 8 16 Filter Kit for Cokin P +Holder+Wide Adapter+lens Hood LF292

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-ND-2-4-8-16-Filter-Kit-for-Cokin-P-Holder-Wide-Adapter-lens-Hood-LF292-/231459739995?hash=item35e413595b:g:9MMAAOSwsN9XDMLg

I bought one of these and it works great. Has adapters for many lens sizes.

Thanks for the link. I ordered one of those, and if it seems decent, I will revisit the idea of the sharpstar.

I bought a Bahtinov Mask for my 80mm telescope and found it also fits my 150-600mm Tamron lens. Over on the telescope, inside on the Tamron.
I like any two from one I can find.
After breaking one of the mounting pegs bases (plastic mask), I bought a metal Bahtinov mask, but it has a 4 point pattern. That pattern does not work well at all.
So I repaired my first one and employ it quite often. It lives on the accessories tray of my mount. And I am getting into the routine of using it just before beginning my nights targeting and imaging.

I can't see myself investing in the Lonely Spec offering. But wouldn't it be nice to have one that could flip down for a quick check during the night. (Like when we change objects)
