Amazon perhaps. The big box stores all seem to run them but I've not notices a significant difference in price. Good luck.

One of the places to buy cameras and other gear is B&H. Go to their website and look at what they are offering. When Black Friday comes around, there are usually pre-sale announcements of at least some of what will be on sale. I deal with them, and receive the newsletter and deals announcements regularly.

One thing to be aware of, Nikon controls how much vendors can discount their products. So don't be disappointed if you don't find a truly "deep" discount. But it ought to be good! Just be ready to order quickly, because items are generally limited in number and can go fast.

That can be tricky since camera makers set the prices. You might get a deal with lenses included at a discounted price. When you figure the amount of time you have to wait for something to go on sale (maybe) or a new model to be introduced, is the wait really worth it?

Right now the Nikon D500 is bundled with a 16-80 lens for about $500.00 off at around $2566.00. I do not believe you will see much better for a while on that camera. Nikon puts their lenses on sale at least twice a year, sometimes they list different ones, they do this in the fall and spring. The Nikonusa.com site will offer deals on refurbished Nikon bodies and lenses all the time and also offer the latest deals on other bundles and camera bodies.

If you are new here you may not have seen all the discussions about the "Gray market". Many stores offer cameras and lenses that are designated to be sold overseas. These may be sold for less than the recommended retail price - but the PRICE you pay is that you do not get a USA warrantee from Canon or Nikon. The store may advertise that it comes with a "warrantee" - but that may be a third-party warrantee covered at a repair center rather than by Nikon or Canon. Sometimes it is not clear unless you ASK if it is a Nikon/Canon warrantee. It used to be that authorized dealers only sold at MSRP and did not sell gray market goods also - I have seen some that now sell both, although they try to make a distinction.

So - if you see a camera that Nikon sells for $2,000 and the store has on sale for $1500, you need to know what you are getting. Is it a bad deal? That can be hard to say - it is pretty rare to require service on photo equipment in the first year of coverage anyway.

My understanding, which could change at any moment, is that Nikon will not have anything to do with a gray market camera or lens, whereas Canon will do the repair work but will charge you.

Don't know about other manufacturers other than Nikon, but Nikon has, over the years, authorized a price reduction on Black Friday weekend, for all of their authorized distributors. Which models that will be, who knows. Methinks, the d500 is so hot, they don't need to push sales right now.

Think about refurbished. A lot of folks on here buy that way and if you look at Canon they give you the same warranty as a new camera. If interest go to the Canon camera store on line. I'm not sure but I think Nikon gives 90 day warranty ...Rich

From what I've seen even here in Canada (where we don't have Black Friday), there are lots of ads on tv, on-line, in newspapers, in flyers, in magazines...
I think your best bet is to start watching the ads. Yes, it will take some of your time, but the rewards may be well worth it.
When it comes to camera gear, I believe that the manufacturers have a hand in setting prices, therefore even the major dealer's may not have big sales on their cameras.
Since you're looking at one camera in particular, it really should not take that much time to find the sale prices for it - IF in fact, it will be included in the BF sales. I think it's more likely that the price will remain the same and that some "stuff" will be thrown in: bag, lenspen, filter, etc.

Last November during Black Friday I could have bought a Nikon D5500, body only, at Best Buy Store for $500 new. They were gone in an instant and I missed out. I remember they had great bundle deals with 2 lenses on the D3300 and a 3 lens bundle for the Nikon D7100 camera. All came with a camera bag. B&H had the same bundle deal for the D3300, but a different one than Best Buy for the D7100. Costco had an incredible bundle deal on the Nikon D7200 that vanished quickly. Check Best Buy Store, Costco, Adorama, and B&H for good deals that may include the Nikon D500. Nikon sets their prices generally on their cameras, as Jerry so indicated.

To me Costco is the best for returns, BB great also.

B&H no sales tax, but no returns, exchanges 99 days after the purchase,

BB they will swap out a dead camera 90 days after purchase, bat any BB, gray if you are on a trip..

B&H has the best selection, and no sales tax..

I don't know about grey market, but Nikon USA controls the pricing of their retailers in the United States so any "special" deals by one dealer will probably be the same or similar for all. HOWEVER, Adorama, B&H and some of the other retailers have figured out that while Nikon (and probably the other manufacturers) control the retail pricing of their cameras and lenses BUT the stores will bundle the "authorized" camera with additional items like backpacks, batteries, strobes, etc. to sweeten the deal and those "non-Nikon or Canon" items will be heavily discounted. When I bought my D7100 from B&H, it included the Nikon Kit which was D7100 body, Nikon Battery, charger, etc. PLUS a nice padded backpack camera bag with rain cover, large enough to carry 2 cameras batteries, sd cards 6 lenses, and lots more plus a Watson battery (which only held enough charge for about 2/3rds the Nikon battery but was good enough for a backup. Note it died after 2.5 years but the Nikon battery is still going strong) and several other items. Retail wise, the gear would have added about $300 to the price of the camera but the whole thing was about $25 more than the Nikon price for the body and it's accessories. The point is that while the cameras may NOT be discounted, the deals will be available by getting the additional goodies (whether you can use all of them or not).

I'm not sure about Nikon - but with Canon there really are no big discounts on the better cameras. Your best bet if you need a big discount is to buy used, refurbished, or grey market. Right now, looks like the used are about 1600, greys about 1660, and refurbs ??? I'm not sure where to find Nikon refurbs - but I bet some of the Nikon Hogs do !!! Good Luck hunting - keep an eye on ebay - sometimes you can find a great deal !!!

This is an important point to consider. ALWAYS check to make sure you will have a USA manufacturer's warranty. While cameras do not generally require service when new, it is impossible to tell if something went wrong in the manufacture and assembly until it goes wrong! This is another reason why personally I do not buy cameras refurbished (very short warranty) or pre-owned (warranty determined by seller) - I like the idea of having a long enough warranty that (hopefully!) whatever goes wrong will happen during its term. (On B&H's website, there is a place to check that you only want to see USA items.)

I HAVE bought pre-owned and refurbished lenses from reputable sellers (B&H, Adorama). The warranty is short, but a lens is less complex than a camera. It is more likely to discover any problems early, plus they are examined and graded before re-sale, so you should know what you are getting.

I also believe that Nikon will not do anything normally covered under a USA warranty to a Gray Market product. There are places that will work on them, but they are generally not Nikon-approved shops.
