I am thinking of purchasing this lense for a mid-range zoom for birding, nature photography etc and at 1399 the price is right. Thanks!! yes their are some reviews out their, but I would like some uhher"s opinions.

for those interested in the review of this lense there are about four reviews of this lens at b&h camera. Also on a photography blog at cameratimes.org and a more comprehensive review at www.dpreview.com. Looks like the lens is pretty heavy. It has better sharpness over its older model, better autofocus and better image stabilization with 3 modes of is. Hope this helps. I probably will not purchase it until I wait for many more reviews to be published:comparing it to both similar sigma lenses the contemporary and the sport models at 150-600mm.

I had the older version and traded it in for the new G2. It seems to be sharper, AF works better. More features like the addition VC mode 3, better coating, better weather seal, able to lock all focal lengths, larger foot on tripod collar with two mounting screw holes and a built in arca mount. It focuses closer then the old one and also closer then the two sigma versions, about 7 feet. I haven't been using it long, but I have notice a big difference in my images. See the attached shots.
The Heron photo is not cropped, the other two are. All hand held with VC on. Also you can fine tune this lens with the Tap device, being that it is an SP lens.

They look nice ira, especially being hand held.. How is the balance of this lense on your Nikon camera.. I see on one review that it is very top heavy except on this fellows full frame camera.(5d---) How is the balance when you use it on your tripod. How long could you hand hold this camera without getting fatigued on a camera shoot. Thanks for your response . Looking forward to more responses.

It is about the same weight as the previous version or very close to the same weight-4.4lbs. It is lighter then the Sigma Sport-6.3 lbs and the Nikon 200-500-5.1lbs. I haven't used it on a tripod yet. I have a gimbal on my tripod, so it should dial in nicely like the previous version maybe a little better do to the improvements on the collar foot. I just tried it on my ball head and it works nicely. It is easy to hand hold.

Thanks for your quick reply ira being on football sunday. It looks like the info I am getting on this lense is very favorable and I am getting closer and closer to ordering it. Might wait another few weeks until other reviews are in. I have a ball head a 200bh by vanguard on a vanguard tripod(263) and this should hold it fine. thanks again!!
