I would like to buy this lens just need to be sure it's compatible with my 5D mk 1V Canon. I am sure the EF lenses are ok -I am leaving on 2nd Nov for a safari in Africa and was going to rent a lens but this lens would be great. The push pull version is an EXCELLENT lens. I have both versions and just can't seem to let go of the push/pull 100-400

Have you used this lens with a 1.4 or a 2.0 teleconverter? If so did it work well?

SAMPLE shots with my 100-400 - at home, in Theodore Roosevelt and Yellowstone NPs. There is little or no post-processing in these pics as I would rather spend my time behind a lens than in front of a computer. Contrast/exposure may have been adjusted in some images, but that's about it. The hummers were shot using a tripod; in view of the very short exposure durations, focus had to be optimal. Light was not always the best in the series!
