As I switched from my 7DII to my 6D to continue experimenting with the new lens it was time for the afternoon feeding before Sun Down so I was watching for small birds around my feeders. Some days they will ignore me if I sit still and come in flocks, not today, they were perching or buzzing by to check me out, a bunch in the apple and orange trees next door, doves on the power lines. Two or three landed in semi-hidden out of the way places around the old swing set. Then this one brave little guy landed 20 feet in front of me right under one of the hummingbird feeders and started to hop and walk around looking for seeds fallen from the feeders. He could hear the shutter of the camera and would look up when I took pictures, then he ignored me. Then he hopped into the open shade where no potted plants hid him and the grass was short. I got this one, actually several frames in the burst were this sharp but this one had the best pose and a highlight on the eye. Then I just sat and watched him for about 5 minutes. When I stood up to come inside he just looked up as if to say "You leaving already?" and went back to feeding. From inside the family room I saw others start to join him feeding.
6D, 100-400 mk II @ 400, 1/250 @ f/7.1, ISO 2000 hand held at about 20 feet or so
Wow, great capture. So sharp and clear - looks like it might take off any second now!

This little guy was determined to eat, just checked on me every so often and kept eating when I stood up and walked away.
A wonderful shot of the little guy! Obviously he sized you up and decided you are harmless. lol!

Lots of practice at pretending to be harmless, Vietnam, 34 years as a classroom teacher, hunting and now taking pictures if they want me to or not.
Excellent image of this little White-crowned Sparrow, Robert!

Thank you - he is outnumbered about 10 or 15 by the house finches most of the time. Maybe he figured I was a good finch repellent.
Thank you, yes, I like the Mk II. The Mk I is extremely good and the II improves on a few things. I could live with either but the II is better.
An excellent sharp download. So nice he posed so well for you.
