I am a little surprised to have not seen mention of the introduction of the Sony A99ii today. The nay sayers had been proclaiming a-mount dead, but I guess it is not.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, "The reports of the demise of the A-mount are highly exaggerated."
To some, this now for tails the demise of E-Mount.
I guess this proves patience is a virtue. I have a big horde of great Minolta, Sony, and other A-Mount lenses. The last full frame A-Mount I bought was the A900. I did not think the A99 represented a big enough improvement for me to buy it. I was impressed with A77M2 and bought that camera. I have been very happy with the A77M2.
I have been patiently waiting for Sony to come out with the A99M2. I'm very impressed with the specifications. I'll soon be spending 3.2K$.
I'm pleased to learn that the body is smaller and that it will use the same batteries as my other two cameras. It will be exciting to find out how well my various A-Mount lenses work on the A99M2.

Yes, I too have quite a few a-mount lenses. And I have the A99 as well as the A77Mii. I will be watching for the reviews.

AND, not to mention a 4 stop VR system which will work with all of my minolta AF lenses. Thank you Sony.
That was an immediate introduction. I thought the Sony a68, a crop sensor, would be the very last of the A-mount cameras..The first a99 was a good camera. Manufacturing both A-mount and E-Mount lenses is something that Sony feels they can handle. I guess. Sony's mirrorless E-mount lenses were rising to the occasion with some excellent Zeiss and G-series type glass.

And the new hybrid auto focus system.....I look forward to using this on many of my great A-mount lenses. I few of my favorites are:
Minolta 35~70mm f/4
Sony 300mm f/2.8
Sony 70~300mm f/4.5~5.6
Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro
Sony 500 f/8 reflex lens (The new focus system will breath new life into this great old lens!) The A77M2 focus system made this lens sing!
and too many more to list here.
It's my impression that Sony is saying that to achieve really fast and accurate focus, a mirror is still needed.

Well, I have everyone of those lenses except the Sony 300mm f2.8, and instead I have the Tokina version, and the 500mm f8 that I have is the Minolta version, which I understand is the same product. Plus many more also.

I suspect that Sony is about to sell us both a new A99M2. :-) I was not a big fan of the that 500mm mirror lens because it was hard to focus on older cameras, until I bought the A77M2. It's got to be even better on the newer camera.
I already had all the lenses I mentioned and more, then I met a man who had a large collection of Minolta lenses but made the jump from Minolta to Canon and wanted to sell off his "worthless" lenses just prior to Sony picking up the Alpha line.
Yes, that 500mm Minolta lens is the same as Sony version. Sony no longer offers that lens. You can still buy them on eBay.
The Sony A99m2 looks to be a good camera. It looks like it is the A7Rm2 in a bigger body for A mount lenses. I would need an adapter for my FE mount lenses. If one day I get the A99m2 it would replace my A77m2.
I read elsewhere that because the A99M2 includes Bluetooth it will be able to exchange GPS data with your smart phone and use the GPS data in the metadata even though there is no GPS built into the camera.
It will be interesting to see how well this works.

There can never be an adapter for FE lenses to work on an A mount camera, only the other way around. Its all about flange to sensor distance.

I am liking the 12 FPS of the A99II - but I do NOT have 3.2K for it .....

IF YOU CAN WAIT FOR A YEAR, THEY WILL OFFER A BATTERY PACK WITH FLASH FOR FREE WITH PURCHASE OF CAMERA. WAIT TWO-THREE YEARS AND YOU CAN GET A NEW BODY FOR 2K.

LOL
Funny yet very true. A year or two after that we can sign up to get the A99iii! I'm going to place my order.

I like the Tokina a lot. It is very well constructed. Manual focus works like a dream. Auto focus is right on. It is quite sharp. And it weighs a ton! I just need to get retired so I can use it more!
