Which printer is best

Hello Hoggers. I have been doing Event and Party photography for about 6 month where I produce a CD on the spot for clients. I would like to make quality 4x6 prints on the spot. Any recommendations on a printer to buy that would be a good workhorse and reliable. I probably would get 2 so $$ is an issue. Any help is appreciated.

If you are looking a larger printers you can pick up the Canon Pixma Pro 100 for $129.00 with rebates right now from B&H.

A small printer that might work is this one below. Takes about a minute per picture, a little faster than the Pro-100 but much smaller.

For this kind of work I would suggest looking into "dye sub" printers. Check out a few brands at B&H. I have one, a Sony which has been discontinued, and it is great for this type of work. The print speed for a 4x6 is usually under 10 seconds, so I' not sure why you would want two. Just to have a backup would, of course, be a good idea, but I would most likely set up another size on that printer. MUCH better than dragging an inkjet all over the place, IMHO. Best of luck!

The OP did not mention other sizes, just a backup since he makes money with the 4x6 prints.

The Selphy (from above) is a dye sub printer. However, be aware that dye sub prints are quite expensive to make.

They may cost you a few cents more than an inkjet print but they are a lot quicker and a lot less hassle. Even if you only are charging $ 3 per 4x6 print, you are making good money. Most folks charge $ 5 and up in the field. Inkjet printers were not meant to be jostled by being loaded into vehicles and going for a ride and are much more temperamental than the normal Dye Sub. I would not be without mine, if just for proofing. YMMV.

I have a DNP DS 40 that I love for events.
Prints in about 8 seconds.
I have golf tournament foursomes finished an hour aftter they are half-way done and at parties, they are usually ready before they leave the "booth" area (shooting thethered).
Print quality is on par with what I get a Costco/ Walmart.
It has been said that dye-sub fades faster than inkjet, but I have prints from 5 years ago from my Sony that look fine. They have never been taken outside.
