I just got a phone call (which I did not answer) from thr "IRS" saying that I was being sued by the IRS. Do not even pick up the phone with this message. IT Is A Scam. The IRS does not call by phone. I know that this scam has been around for some time. BEWARE

Yeah, I think I got at least 6 of those calls in the past week. Always a recorded message, with bad grammar to boot.

My neighbor is a former IRS agent. The IRS works in person or by mail, the only time you'll get a phone call from them is when you have an established relationship with an IRS agent.

I think I also got 6 calls this week from 'cardholder support', too.

There's scammers using random dialers and this time you were the random pick. I know several folks that have gotten the same bogus phone call. We've even gotten them at work. If you have caller Id then you know it's a scam call but for those who don't or who just answer, answering the phone is benign, as soon as you hear them identify themselves as the IRS, hang up. They can't download anything into your phone. Everyone should know, the IRS never calls you on the phone and for those who don't know that, it's true, the IRS does not call you on the phone. The only time your caller Id should identify a caller as the IRS is if someone you know who works at the IRS is calling you from work, and even that's unlikely.

The phone experts advise just hanging up, trying to waste their time is a waste of your time.

I have ZERO faith in the government being able to control this!

Sometimes it is fun to play with their minds a little. If you know that a live individual is going to be on the line just answer in a husky, breathless voice before they can say anything: "Okay...it's done!...But there's blood everywhere!...I'll meet you at number 3" and hang up the phone.

When I get a call like this I tell them; "Hold on just a minute. My wife takes care of this. I'll go get her." I put the phone down and forget it.

A lot of recorded calls now ask innocuous questions at the start, just like a real caller might. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between a human caller and an automated one. I tend to give non sequitor answers, if they ask "How are you today?" I might answer "Green 29".

I also try to throw human callers off their script, by saying something like "Can you get to the point please?"
