While taking pictures of humming birds and skippers in the yard I noticed a dandelion puff ball I just had not been paying attention to. The plant has grown to the tall phase with bloom and them puff balls on long stalks. (I got rid of my weekeaters and mower years ago and the lawn guy hasn't been around in 2 months.)
Just for the heck of it I started taking some shots of the weeds, millet growing from bird seed etc.
This puff ball/seed head is fairly small, a quarter would cover it.
This is bright daylight in direct sun. I was playing in PP and among other things dropped the vibrance and upped the saturation just to see what it would do, then took it to Viveza 2 for structure and PS for sharping and back to LR to tweak the vibrance, saturation, highlights and exposure again.
For a weed it doesn't look so bad.

Very nice. The use of light is terrific. Good post-process.
Great image Robert! Dandelions are beautiful and prolific, and also the goldfinches love the seeds attached to those puff balls. Many were located in a vacant lot next to our former home and when they were blooming and the seed heads were available, from a distance we found it difficult to distinguish the blooms from the beautiful little goldfinches that would ride the stems down while eating the seeds. The seed eating goldfinches nest later in the season than most other birds, taking advantage of this plentiful seed supply and their beautiful color really blends in with the dandelions. On the downside, there is no such thing as just a few dandelions!
Nice one again.
Re. the mower--I spend most of my time in the summer on my 60" rider working about 5-6 acres. I find that therapeutic.

Thank you
They are supposed to be year round here but I have never seen a gold finch in my yard. Probably few of them anywhere near me because the only places with enough water for the dandelions are lawns and parks where they get sprayed or weed whacked instantly. I probably have 90% of the ones that have produced seeds for at least a mile around.
That is a beautiful shot. All of your PP effort really paid off!
nice shot really like the sharpness in the dadalion

Nice job turning a lowly weed into an artistic image, robert!
