Every now and then I see a striking pic on the hog of the interior of a canyon crevasse of striped golds, purples and oranges, but I can't think of what it's called. I think it's somewhere in the southwest. I want to go there someday!!

That's it! Thanks :) I have to get to Arizona sometime...maybe next summer. It's a 21 hr drive, though...too expensive to fly.

Worth the trip. The upper canyon is the preferred one. I would suggest signing up for the photo tour.

The guide takes his time and holds back people so you can get your picture. Protect your equipment with clear plastic bags and do not change your lens in the canyon. Outside Antelope if Horse shoe bend. A must to photography.

Maybe not. When I figure the costs of gasoline, vehicle wear and tear, extra food, nights in a motel, etc., I find it just as cheap to fly when I go to Phoenix about every other year. And that doesn't count the stress involved with driving all day every day for three days each way. If you keep checking prices (especially on Southwest) and are flexible, you can find some good deals.

John, when I think of the stress of dealing with TSA, along with trying to take a large format camera, the car looks pretty good, wear and tear or not.

Perhaps--I really haven't had a bad TSA experience--yet.

I started to go there this year but didn't have time; did a big loop from Tucson Rodeo to Glove, etc. up to Flagstaff, Wupatki Ruins, etc. read quite a bit about Antelope
Canyon - a server showed me her iPhone pictures and THEY were stunning; will plan to do a Canyon de Chelly ( last there about 30 years ago ) to Page, etc. lots of
tips on net about photographing there; there is a photo pass available - go to their website

I was just figuring out gas costs...if my average milage when I go to Oshkosh every year or two or so holds, it would take me about 34 gallons (just over 2 tanks) each way...$170 round trip if pump prices don't skyrocket, one night each way in a flea-bag motel (or a nice hog's house) and maybe 2 or 3 nights in AZ would make a nice vacation, and If I could find a campground to pitch a tent on it would even be cheaper :). It's been many, many years since I've seen any of the national parks out west...I'd say it's high time to get back there, and if another hog wanted to join me, all the better.

Search the word 'antelope' in the search function at the top of the page for lots of info. And photos. The search is immediately/directly below the word "PHOTOGRAPHY" FORUM

I didn't know what it was called so I couldn't search for it. Fortunately, the first person to answer was right.

If you go try the photographers tour at Lower Antelope Canyon too. Not as crowded and much more of a slot canyon. The Upper Antelope Photo tours have to compete with literally horde of tourists. And even though the guides try to hold people back many times it doesn't work.

Here's a shot of the great hall in the Upper Antelope Canyon. You will love this place. You need to go on a guided tour to wlk through it. it is run by the Navajo Nation and they do a great job with their tours.

If you are camping in a tent, get a Senior Pass for the national parks. It lets you camp for about 50% of the park daily charge. In most parks that is about 5.00 to 7.00 a night. It costs $10.00 and is a lifetime pass. You just have to be 62 to get it.
