Don't you just love it when someone goes on vacation and comes back with tons of shots that they want to share?

After two weeks on the "Big Island" and the best vacation ever, I have returned with close to 4,000 shots and have spent hours editing. My shutter finger is worn out and my eyes are crossing, but here goes, the first installment for those who are brave enough to look.

I will start with views from various towns, some taken from the car with the little Olympus point and shoot. The colors in the towns were eye-catching.

Welcome home, glad you enjoyed your vacation. I know how you feel, it almost takes a vacation to recoup from your vacation. Anyway...your off to a good start. You have good photography skills and it shows in you images. This is a nice set to begin with. Now, just 3990 more images to show us...I'm ready!

Fantastic sense of place!

My favorite is the Lost Tattoo Parlor shot. Wonderful details to enjoy. Are the guy and dog in the window real, or a mural? If real, what timing! I just love the whole chaotic and colorful mood of this one.

Thanks James. I hope I won't bore you with the rest. I generally don't post images of my family, and may not show any of the house we rented. That will eliminate at least 3,000 shots.

The trip was fabulous with the exception of spraining my ankle the first morning. Somehow I managed to hobble around, avoiding hikes on really uneven ground and not putting flippers on for snorkeling too soon. Zip lining was fun and a real ankle saver. Needless to say, I could have stayed much longer.

It sounds like you and I are in sinc much of the time as to what we find appealing. Many of the street scenes looked like what you'd see in other countries in terms of color and clutter, and I had to remind myself that I was still in the U.S. The pace on this island is much different than the others, too. Everything is more laid back with the exception that morning and late afternoon traffic on the main road is ridiculous. In that respect, we felt like we were back home.

Thanks Bob. You would fit right in there with the mongoose(s) and assorted exotic animals. Most animals have been introduced to the islands at various times.

Nice shots. I had no idea there were places with such character in Hawaii. The second last one - guy with window - would make really cool crop of upper right quarter.
