I trust all of the UHHogers so when in need I turn to you. I have a Canon 7d that I will never give up and the Canon Powershot SX50. I also own a Canon Rebel t4i. I use my Rebel for trips and walking around as it is lighter then my 7d. So here is my question I would love to get a new Rebel I am looking at buying the Rebel 6ti (body only I have all my lenses). What I would like to know from you is this. When do you think the Rebel 7ti will come out and should I hold off for that if it is close? There is nothing wrong with my t4i at all just want to upgrade and hubby says I can. BTW need to stay lighter weight as I have a stinking rotten bad back this is why I don't use my 7d for trips or walking around. I was asked what lenses I have here is the list. Canons 70-300 L, 70-200 L, 35mm, 24-105mm, 18-135mm, 70-300mm, 10-22mm. Tamron 18-270 and the 16-300. So you see I really don't need any lenses.

Well, my answer won't help you much, but there is always a better mouse trap just around the corner. Buy what you need so you can do what you want to do. Will there be a seismic upgrade or only a little nudge - like year-to-year changes in most autos? Unless you have an inside track at Canon you just won't know.

Sorry that I have nothing better to offer.

Would it be better to invest in quality lenses rather than the newest camera? What lenses do you have?

The T6i is an upgrade - but not all that significant for you. As mentioned, a lens upgrade for the $750 of the T6i may prove more beneficial - at this time - like the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 or the Tokina 12-20 f2.

Supposedly (according to Canon Rumors website) there will be a new mirrorless (M5) camera released/announced at the end of the year. Perhaps this will be their first real mirrorless offering (not holding my breath though).

Probably not until mid-2017; that would be the 2 year mark and that's the usual spacing between models. The real question is...what are you missing that you'll get with the T6i?

Maybe you should sell some lenses - lot of duplication here ...

It's a fascinating problem.

I've been dealing with it for many years. I can remember when we waited a long time for the next camera that was going to take us to the professional level. It took a long time to find out that no camera company is truly going to produce such a camera, or lens. Shoot themselves in the foot? No way!

The Players were the same as now, pretty much. Nikon-Canon-Olympus-Pentax-Beseler-Kodak-Minolta. That was in the Sixties for me. You can't imagine how long I waited for the Olympus OM-1

In that time, we were lucky to see one new pro level camera and one new consumer model in a 3-4 year period. And yet we lusted. It's gotten to be such a continuous process, we now call it GAS, because it occurs, and is fed, so much faster.

You know what we did years ago.... hobbyists and professionals alike. We shot what we had and we improved our skills at the art with the camera's available. No better camera's exist today than they did 50-60 years ago for the motivated photographer who wanted to break into professional photography. Advance your skill set. What you own now, is supposedly already that "next best camera" that we longed for many years ago.

They don't get better, they just get more "feature rich"....What the hell is that???

They used to say it at the Proms... Dance with the one you brung!!! Go take more pictures with your current darling and get better at it. It's likely NOT performing up to it's full capacity, and that's everybody's problem who's doubling over with GAS.

No camera company today is going to kill the "Goose that lays the Golden Egg" by finally delivering all the technology they have in the back room for us to buy for the next ten years. Would you be surprised to find out that Nikon, Canon and the Others do have a ten or twenty year plan to lift money from your wallet in the years to come. Spend your money on travel to exotic destinations to shoot beautiful sites.

Then you'll be supporting the ten year plans of the tourism industry, but having way more fun.

What you are missing on the lens side are some fast primes; whereby you can play with shallow DOF.

Or you can get into flash photography, and/or macro photography.

Your telephoto selection tends to be on the wide zoom range; of course long telephoto can run a lot of money.

How is your tripod and head?

Have you tried shooting panoramas? A nice panorama head is a great toy.

So many things to play with...that will expand your photographic range more than a new camera.

Maybe I should do a wife swap with your hubby were he to object. You shop for toys at BH photo. My wife finds hers at Bloomingdales

The T6i has the best sensor available from Canon and is a significant upgrade from all your current bodies. From the looks of your lens selection I would think you could sell off MANY of these duplicate lenses and get enough to buy the T6i, or better yet, the T6s which gives you more control availability on the body rather than in the menus, much as your 7D does.

This is generally good advice, especially the T6s rather than the T6i. The T6i and T6s are a significant upgrade from the T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i series Rebels. Avoid those without the 'i' designation. You might also consider the 80D, which has a substantially better AF system but I believe is similar in size and weight. I'm not convinced about the assertion that the T6i/s have Canon's best sensor, that's always a thorny topic, although for the Rebels it is valid. For APS -C cameras the 80D sensor is equivalent, but the upcoming 5D mk IV (full frame) may well make a claim to having Canon's best sensor yet in many ways.

If you have the budget, do look at the 80D, it's a step up from the T6s and in some ways superior to the 7D mk II.
