For years, I've been using a manual tire changer I got from Harbor Freight for about $40. Since I have only one car now, I won't be doing the tire installation myself, and the changer was taking up a lot of space in the garage. I put it on ebay and had someone bid it up to $16. Unfortunately, he never paid or came to get it. After going through the incomplete sale procedure with ebay, I listed it again, and the winner came yesterday and drove away with it. Now I'm wondering what to do with all the money I made selling it, which is $0.99 before ebay and PayPal take their cut.

Originally, this was going to the dump for someone to take home for free, so anything is better than nothing. The buyer lives a few miles from me, and he was thrilled to get it.

Sometimes I place my stuff at the curb with a sign that offers it free or using the honor system; leave $20.00 in my mailbox. Never been burned yet. There are also many local selling pages on facebook that work well.

My father years ago put tires out by the road with a sign that said "free" (he used to own an autobody shop) no one took them, so he put a sign out that said $60.00, they disappeared overnight. LOL

Yeah, people will steal anything if they think it has some value.

If I really, really want to get rid of something, I put it on the curb with a sign $10.00. No one has left money in the mail box, and I didn't expect anyone to, I just wanted to get rid of it. Works like a champ around here.

Have bought and sold much though Ebay. One thing I really learned to watch is the shipping charges.

The cost of shipping has gone way up, and with an inexpensive item, I don't want to wind up losing money. I always box and weigh the item before I post it. I look up the Priority rate online and list that. If it seems a bit high, I'll drop it down a bit. At times, ebay has told me that my shipping cost is too high, and they make me lower it. People who are in business can ship for free, but I can't.

"Manual tire changer"? Never heard that term...is it the thing you put the tire on to remove it from/put it on the rim?

I use the FreeCycle website. Easy to post and usually items are taken very quickly. Helps those who want to give items away and those who are needy or at least want an item. In most areas there is a local group for posting, so pickups are convenient. http://www.freecycle.org/

Last year we put a table in the yard for free zucchini, and they just sat there. We changed the sign to 75 cents each, and they were gone in about twenty minutes.

This I understand, I would not stop to take any if it said free because I figure there are others that need it more than I do, but if it said 75 cents I would stop and buy them.
