Because of the heat I water early in the morning. I saw the half moon and decided to grab a quick shot of it.
Nikon D500 with a Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens, image was cropped about 30%. Hope some of you like it, but you do have to download it to get the full impact of the impact craters.

Thanks,
I don't shoot the moon much but when I do I much prefer partial moon shots so as to bring out the surface textures.

Nice shot, Shooter...

Talked to my mother who lives in Billings and she said the heat has been just miserable.

Upper 90's all month, over 3" behind average on rainfall. Nightly lightning storms are sparking fires all over. Reminds me of the summer of 1988 when Yellowstone Park burned! I took this one last night, several others as well.

Nice one, Carter. Like you, I also prefer a partial moon as it shows better detail than a full moon.

I remember the Yellowstone fire well...living in Kalispell at the time...had to drive to Billings for a meeting...hazy in Kalispell and like a thick fog from Missoula to Billings...my friend wanted to stop to get out of the smoke...Where should we stop??Denver?

Nice job. It's so hard for me to get a great moon. Well done!

Good camera, good long stabilized lens, and proper exposure are the key ingredients. If your lens is not stabilized or you don't have a steady hand, a good tripod is very helpful. I shoot all mine hand held with a stabilized lens. Oh, and practice, practice, practice.
