I have a Nikon D7000 and have been shooting with a 18-270 Tamron. It is really soft at some focal lengths. What would be some suggestions to replace this multi purpose lens? Is the new Tamron 16-300 a better quality
lens? Should I go with a Nikon or Sigma? I want the sharpest lens possible. Many thanks.
Go to YouTube they have great lens comparisons
Nikon if you can afford it. I have had great results buying relatively new lenses (used). Check out the member classifieds here and eBay.
Go to the Internet thousands of ideas for a requests and answers.

This is the internet.
Did you have something more specific in mind?

I don't think the is a single "do all" lens. I won't waste money on an inferior lens and I attempt to choose lenses based on the job to be done. I cannot think of an "almost there" lens that I would buy. If I had to choose one lens I think I would be hard pressed but I might choose the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8. Good luck.

Sharpest? or Cheapest? There is a difference. Sharpest, Nikon 16-35 f4, 70-200 2.8. If you want a sort of sharp Nikon cheap check out the first version, made in Japan 18-200 Nikon as an all around cheapo lens. It is certainly sharper than the Tamron. That lens does have lens creep though. The sigma art lenses are OK and they may serve you well as an alternate to Nikon if you like third party glass.

I use the 18-300 Sigma and like it very much. Good sharp photos.

rent and test before you buy
I am going to quote Ken Rockwell on this one, "sharpness depends more on the operator than the actual lens."
I only use Nikon lenses with my Nikon bodies. Most recently, and I have a thread on it, I bought the Nikon 18-200 AFS, VR and I am very happy with my lens.
If you have a way to rent it perhaps it could be a great idea to rent it before you buy.
By the way, the sharpest lens in the world will not yield sharp result without good photographic techniques and I am still to meet a lens that did not do its part when I did mine.
