you've been invited to shoot your buddy's band at a motorcycle club event and you are sure to be asked to shoot some bikes with or without riders on them. Whats the first lens you think to use on your full frame camera ??
I should add that it is daylight into prime light of evening time event. Walk around shooting bikes and band. Hoping someone might wish to book a shoot from it, but...... I am there for the music anyway.
I plan to carry a small bag or at least have it with me. I will mount the 5dm3 as well my 7dm2. Just wondering what you would take with and plan to use most.
Thanks in advance.
I'd bring a couple of zooms. Probably my 24-70 and my 70-200
Is it really necessary to schlep two cameras? Might be better to just <focus> on one with your best, most functional lenses. Others will chime in about the value of having a back-up, but if you treat your gear carefully, either body should suffice - and your back and shoulders will thank you.

24-105 will cover the walk around. Not sure how close to the band but with a crop sensor it should be plenty long as you seem mobile. Then an ultrawide for those cool shots of the bikes up close and personal. I do not see much call for a long lens as you seem from your description you have close access to the events and displays. A long lens would be a lot to carry and be pretty worthless for 95% or more of the shots.
Having shot a few bike rallies, I would use my Nikon 17-35 f2.8. It will perform well in low light, and is wide enough to get in close yet have a little range to it. I found that the distortion at 17mm can be used to your advantage to get various emphasis on bikes or bike parts. I see very little use for a long lens.
Nikon 18-140mm would be my choice.
I only have one lens; the 50mm, so that would be my choice. :)
But if I could, I'd go shorter....like a 24mm. Things like bikes with lots of colors and chrome look great when shot close up with a pretty wide lens. Bonus, you can get a LOT in focus and not stress on DOF.
Also, getting close to a band with a short lens looks great.
So my lens would be that + the 50mm.
In my lens assortment, I would take the Nikon 50 mm F1.8 and Sigma 18-250. That is what I have so the question is easily answered.
Sigma 18-35 f/1.4 Art lens.
Id take as I soften have ..., my 2.8 24-70 .... You can crop to zoom any shot .. ...camera should be 24 - 36 pixel for best crop ..

Leave the 7ll at home!
If it's daylight, take a 24-105 and a flash.
If it's dark, ask again!!
