And it now it may happen. As a result of more closing of state exchanges, Obama , in a speech, said we may have to "revisit" a government option in healthcare. The ACA is responsible for these closings since federal subsides are not enough to keep the state exchanges in business. As has been said, obamacare is merely a step to single payer.

too small of a step IMHO... why do you think insurance companies should profit off of Americans' health?

So you think that health care companies should not pay stock holders a dividend. And the employees should donate their skills and time and not ask for payment. Maybe they should close their doors and go out of business. Or maybe we should abandon capitalism and leave it all up to the government. There is already a single payer system called the VA. I have worked in every VA hospital in the NY City area. Take it from me- they are sub standard.

If the VA had access to even a small fraction of insurance company profits, they would run great. ..and you're forgeting about medicare... a single-payer, goverment-run health-care system. You probably forgot about it because it just works fine.

... and since you asked, I would like to see every young person give 1-3 years of service to the country, so they have some skin in the game. The military is one option, a CCC equivalent would be great, also Corps of Engineers to rebuild roads, bridges, infrastructure. Doctors could offset their med school bills by serving in Government hospitals (e.g. VA hospitals)

bottom line... no bureaucrat should be able to weigh another person's health in one hand and assign a price to it.

Well we can argue till hell freezes over about people with previous conditions getting insurance but the one thing that can not be argued is they will collect far more than they will pay in so someone must makeup for all that money hence the huge increases in my healthcare cost.

all you need is some "problem" requiring an x-ray and a couple of mri's and you are good for several years.

Insurance is basically a bet you make that you will get sick or injured.

Yes but when I'm forced to pay for others also it then becomes cost prohibitive.
