...17. That is as close to a new camera as one can get. Also, it has the latest firmware installed and looks immaculate. Am in the process of installing my desired settings and happy as a newly wed!

I have bought several factory refurbished cameras and never an issue...each one had fewer than 50 for shutter count. Strongly recommend buying factory refurbished cameras and lenses to anyone contemplating a purchase.

Heading out to the Colorado Rockies for a long weekend and am looking forward to using this camera.

Congratulations on your "new" camera.
I agree with you about refurbished. Whenever I decide to buy gear I always look for refurbished first.

I have been so happy with my refurbished purchases. Was waiting to pull the trigger on the long awaited D500 (replacing the D300) but after reading Thom Hogan and Ken Rockwell's reviews, among many others, decided to get the D7200. The D500 is a marvelous camera and probably the best sports/wildlife camera in the market today. However I wanted an all around camera and the D7200 gets great reviews in this regard...and it does pretty darn good for sports/wildlife too.

Just went out in the backyard and took these three photos of bee's in our Rose of Sharon's...these were just quick hand held grabs with the Nikon 16-80.

Not knocking refurbs but its not like a new camera. They just turn the counter back.

Don't think so joer...Nikon Tech Support says no way do they run the counter back. They did not even do that when they put new shutter mechanisms in returned cameras. Besides the counter is in the cpu, like a car odometer. You can turn the odometer back but the mileage is still recorded in the cars "brain". Every time you hook up an auto oscope it shows the correct miles. Same with the camera cpu.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Way to go, Jederick, I'd say you made a very smart buy and like I've said many times before, when the manufacturer of the camera refurbishes one of their own, the camera is better than a new one simply because it was not made in an assembly line fashion, but by an expert who wasn't on a time clock getting it right !

So, refurbished camera's are hand made? How about your $25,000.00 Sigma, was that also a refurbished.

What, exactly, is a refurbished camera? Does it start with a used, returned, open box, defective or demonstrator camera, or cameras recycled due to a know factory defect (or all of the above)? And what is done to to "refurbish" it? Apparently not done is to reset the shutter count. Who does the refurbish, the factory or factory repair, an authorized repair agency, or just anybody? Is there any standard warranty for a "factory refurbished" unit? Can one expect a life similar to that of a "new" unit? Does the refurb include the lens? Is the lens inspected for defects or "like new" performance?

Well, I have never had any issues buying refurb. I like to buy refurb from Camera since they offer a one year warranty while the manufacturer only offers ninety days.
One way or another the camera or lens was inspected and checked by the original importer and for all practical purposes it is brand new.
