Poppy at 9 weeks

She can be a handful but also amazes me. Today she went up and down the deck steps on her own and without hesitation. Shes 9 weeks at midnight tonight. A few days ago she was stalking a water bottle and transitioned into the head to tail straight point with the cocked front leg too. We were amazed.

The leash is just following her around to get her used to having it on. Today was the first day it has not been crocodile rolls to get it off.

Really cute. I have had two labs and would not have any other breed. Have fun!

Sad weekend here. After two weeks I reluctantly called the breeder and will be returning Poppy sometime next week so she can go to another loving home. I was concerned about a puppy before we started because we are getting older and my stamina is not what it was and my wife has gone downhill a lot too. My wife intended to help and I was told my concerns were unfounded. However my wife has been unable too help at all and its just too much for me to handle the puppy on top of everything else alone. I have seen such improvement in Poppy in the two weeks here with us, and she is so intelligent. She knows daddy and this just breaks my heart. But I just cannot physically do it all anymore. Getting older really sucks.

The breeder says if we are looking in a few years she will keep her eye out for other older or retired dogs like Reese for our age.

But it sure hurts like heck.

I'm sooooo sorry to hear this, Woodsman! I know it breaks your heart! We have elderly friends who just adopted a Sheltie puppy, and I can't imagine why they did! He's practically blinds..only sees shadows, and his wife's in a wheel chair. They are both in their 70s. While we were visiting she got out, and she ran and ran and ran! She didn't run away, just in big circles around his property. Poor baby just needed a good run. She came to me when she was tired. They have several acres of land, but no fence, so she's on a short leash all the time. This is sooooo wrong! It's just killing me! :( I don't want to go back and visit them anymore; I can't stand to see what they're doing to the poor baby. They drove four hours up to Long Island to rescue her. I just don't know what they were thinking! :((((

Yes, a puppy has to run. I have a long 8 meter leash and Poppy has been running like crazy with me behind because there are too many poisonous plants around here and she is a plant/grass/dirt/stone eater. Plants like Oriental Poppies, bleeding hearts and others which are toxic to dogs. She needs a fences place she can just tear and tear in. She is only 10 weeks now so I am sure she will find a good home. The hard part is she recognizes me as Dad now and looks up at me with those eyes.. Darn it all. I will be leaving with her in about 1/2 an hour but it is for the best. I am going to ask the breeder to let us know the type of home she goes too. We want to know she will be well protected and taken care of, we dont want to forever wonder.
