Her heart beat faster when she heard the muffled footsteps behind her in the fog. The woman picked up her pace, looking for a place in shadow, unlit by the street's bright gaslamps, for the coming combat. The monster London had named Jack the Ripper was stalking her, as she had hoped. The darkness inside her needed to be fed, and the powerful demon that possessed Jack would make a meal that would last her for many years.

Her hundredth birthday had come and gone, and still she had not proven herself by besting a demon, had not earned her place as a Wicked Witch. Tonight that would change. Tonight she would face her fear, overcome it, and earn the title of Dark Lady. Or die.

You should be a writer! Love this series! (Pictures are always awesome and unique) Very Stephen Kingish.

Now, that's an great effect that emphasizes the Dark Lady's determination for a bit of a scrap!!

Thanks, Andy. Glad you're enjoying the stories, and thanks for the compliment! I think they add a little fun to the images, beyond just a dry 'took this handheld at f5.6, 1/200 sec and ISO 200.'

But it's all about having fun with our hobby, and each of us does it our own way.

Thanks again for your kind words, and thanks for stopping by. It's always very much appreciated!

I totally agree with Andy, plus you should open a portrait studio as you portraits are master pieces.

Lol, thanks, Ron. Did several iterations of this, a real toss-up which to post with the story. Decided the darker theme and lighting of her eyes made this version the winner, but I did like another one better overall. ReStyle can really give some great effects, one of Topaz's more interesting programs, tho I don't often use it.

Thanks for your kind comments and the thumbs, always very much appreciated, as is your visit!

Lol, thanks, Mike. You're too generous with the praise. The portraits are only good because the ladies are so pretty! But they're sure fun to work with, lol.

Tell you what--I'll open a studio the very day you publish a book of your own images! Mine aren't bad, but yours are immortal!

Thanks again for your kind words and visit, I'm always grateful!

Randy I trust this meets with your approval and that you don't take it as a slight upon your integrity but I seriously doubt that you are fully aware of the risks this undertaking is exposed to.
I think she has probably underestimated the guile of Jack. This is indeed a cunning and dastardly character who's nocturnal and nefarious activities sends shudders through the most hardened of police investigators, as for the local bobbies, well, don't expect them to contribute to the apprehension of the said villain, they all live in fear of him.
Madame witch is either grossly mis-informed or has probably overestimated her skills in dealing with such a miscreant. I truly fear for her wellbeing.
Due to my misgivings about the outcome of her quest I have contacted Dr Watson, who has reluctantly agreed to remain on standby throughout the night.
Inspector Lestrade's single-mindedness and refusal to monitor the movements of the witch, claiming that she is nothing more than a foolish woman on a fool's erroneous errand does nothing to quell the concern that I have.
Despite his disdain for Lestrade, Holmes proved himself to be, what others probably consider extremely uncooperative, aloof of the dilemma at hand.
So to summarise, she will be meandering the streets of Whitechapel, without any expectation or hope of anyone coming to her rescue in the unfortunate event of her falling prey to Jack.
Dr Watson will remain on standby at Baker Street. Lestrade has been informed of Watson's vigil and has agreed to send a constable with all haste to summons him if circumstances warrant it.
Beyond this, I am at a loss as to what can be done to safely extract her from the mission.

When Jack and the Dark Lady come face to face he will go weak at the knees! Then all her options are open, what will she do Randy? The tension is building for the next instalment......stunning portrait, beautiful eyes. Once again great work.

If you let Dark Lady die in your story, Randy, none of us old guys will ever speak to you again.

Thanks, Jim. Glad you liked it. I actually did this one up normally for her, lol. But I needed something darker to set the mood for the midnight battle, and played around with the light until I got what I wanted. A touch of fear, a touch of menace, by setting off those eyes. I don't think I'd care to mess with her, myself, lol.

Thanks for your kind words and visit, they're always very much appreciated!
