WINDOWS 10 and Scanners

Last week Windows did one of their updates and I lost the ability to communicate with either of my flatbe scanners (Epson 300 and 550). They are plugged into USB2 ports. My HP Officejet does still work as a scanner of document quality. Has anyone else experienced this problem AND HOPEFULLY SOLVED IT? All suggestioned welcomed. Thanks.

Not sure if it will work, but unplug the USB cord, then plug it back in. USB devices carry their own drivers and upload when first placed in the USB port of your computer. It may be you just have to reload the "instructions" by a simple disconnect/reconnect.

Type Device Manager in the search bar. When it opens, open the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, and see if there are any yellow "!" showing, on any in the entire device manager tree. If yes, right click and choose properties. Under the Driver tab, select Update Driver.

Excellent suggestion (updating drivers). If you don't see your scanners under USB devices, look under "imaging devices".

Thank you all!! Update did not clear the problem, so I have unplugged all 3 of the scanners and uninstalled all their software. I will load everthing from the CDs, get all the upgrades and give it a try again.

Often manufacturers cut old hardware loose. I would suggest you get Vuescan, which anyway is better than original software. I use it with my flatbed and film scanners.

Did you download the driver for Win10? My Epson 600 works with Win10.

I had the same issue. Went to the Epson website and downloaded the Windows 10 drivers for the scanner and all is well.

Also, you can try this. Unplug the USB cable from the scanner and reboot your computer. Now plug it back in and see if the computer rediscovers the scanner.
Worst case scenario is to completely delete the scanner and current drivers, then see if the computer can rediscover it.
If new Win10 drivers are available, by all means, use them.

It could also be an excellent excuse to get a new scanner.

Only if you don't want to put the time in to learning.

And there's not much to learn. I'm an absolute computer dummy and I managed just fine. Win10 is far better than any of the other four or five WinOS versions I have used.
