I have the Sony RX-10 (first one) and like it a lot for travel......except tele length (200) is a bit short for me. The newer RX-10 has a considerably greater reach. Just curious if any of you own this camera and how you feel about it. Always nice to get real users' opinions.

I had the M3 for about 21 days, then returned it to B&H. I couldn't justify the $1500 just to get the extra 400mm of reach (also at a cost of now a non constant aperture whereas your RX10 is 2.8 throughout the range...and the M3 jumps to F4 very early on..around 35mm I believe and increased weight and size.) Image quality appeared to me to be nearly identical, although I did find the M1 slightly sharper perhaps. I previously posted a 24mm and 600mm shot taken in San Francisco of a window washer and a pair of doves in backyard..a search for rx10m3 should bring those images up for you.
But if you need the extended reach and shoot a lot of video it is a great camera. I had sold my old M1, then with return of M3 I repurchased a M1 on Ebay for $400. It is an amazing value at that price.

The Sony RX-10III is expensive, $1500, but so are a lot of cameras. Leica and Hasselblad cameras are two examples. The Sony RX-10III has sold out at B&H. You have to wait now to get it, which indicates that many like this camera. And there will be few, if none, returning this camera back to B&H because it cost too much.

i own the Sony RX 10 111.....i purchased it spicificlly , for my upcoming trip to hawaii, as we are going to take a NCL cruise from there, and because of a recent Injury and surgery, I can't at the moment lug around my Nikon D800 and all my long and heavy Nikon lenses.., after reading the glowing feedback on this camera, Including Ken Rockwells review, whom praised this camera to the sky, My local camera shop had gotten 2 of them, and so I purchased one, so far I"ve taken some test 4K video, and downloaded it in my iMac.and I can tell you this, the results truly are magnificent!!.as for the photo quality , its the same, it will rival any DSLR.and I"ve been a Nikon guy since 1970!!.....the Zeiss lens really performs!!.and I highly recommend it!!.if you do purchase one, be sure you get a SD card that can keep up with it.such as a San Disk class 10 HD Card....thats made for 4K and is super fast, then you will see what this camera is capable of.....!!

I have this camera and my only problem is with the weight, 2#s. The pics are sharp and the range will grab anything out of the sky, makes birding fun. From what I personally see and what I read, this camera is the best of its kind and certainly a reliable replacement for those who no longer want to carry a bag of lenses. ...and it is weather tight to boot.

If you can live with 400mm on the long end, the Panasonic FZ1000 is a much better buy with similar image quality for half the price.

I agree the Panasonic FZ1000 is an excellent camera. Little has been mentioned about Nikon's DL24-500 (500mm) fixed lens camera. $1000. But neither compare to the Sony RX10III.

I've now owned my RX10 iii for almost 2 months now and it seems to have become my #1 goto camera. I have 4 other Sony's but this just seems to be my favorite due to not having to lug a bag full of lenses. This camera takes super quality photos and the zoom will reach out and touch someone. This is, hands down, a great camera.

There are a couple of posters on another forum that bought it primarily for video. They think it is exceptionally good at that. You can read what buyers Ken and Joe think about video capabilities here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/161-camcorders/2383130-sony-rx10-iii-24-600mm-f2-8-4-lens.html

The only fly in the ointment is its build quality. Otherwise it would serve 90% of hobbyist photographers, as well as being suitable for light professional use
