Same image taken this past Saturday at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. Black & White was procesed in Lightroom. Would appreciate your input.
This is just my personal feeling. I strongly prefer color in this instance. This is a beautiful Iris with a lot of very subtle shadings to it lovely color. The lines of the flower are gentle. The impact of this photo to me is the color! There is nothing wrong with the black and white. In fact it looks very good to me - it just doesn't impact me like the color version.
With your chosen background, I like the B&W. IMO, that gray just does not work for the color version all that well.
Stan - Regarding this particular image, I found the color image more compelling. That said, normally I personally prefer B&W over color. Thanks for sharing them, but they might be better suited to the "For Your Consideration" or "Photo Gallery" section where you will likely get more (and better ) responses.
God knew that we would invent Kodachrome some day, so that is why he created flowers the way he did. I have seen many well made B&W photos of flowers but none compare to a color version. Obviously, I like color. Lol.
Both are nice images. I am a black and white guy, but this one does not have the same impact in black and white. I like the color better.

Most definitely the color version - the b/w could be almost "any" flower. Flowers are meant to be seen in color - don't fool with Mother Nature !!!
I realize that I ambiased, but colors images are closer to my reality. I have enjoyed B&W in silhouettes.

In this instance I prefer the colour. The B&W lacks tonality and deepness of tone in my opinion.

In this photo I prefer the color version. The B & W looks flat to me.
We have the abilities to see all colors, so why not show them in your photos?
I like color over B&W most of the time, and definitely for this picture!
Thanks for your comment. I photographed the Iris at the Chicago Botanical Gardens and did not have a choice of background unless I did some PP.
