I have a question about training the PEC function, can I do it with the Autoguider running or do I have to manually correct the RA???
The Manual is not clear on that.

The way I read the manual the way to do it is with Autoguiding enabled. It will learn from the corrections the auto guider makes to improve the tracking.
I haven't done it so I could be wrong.

Thank you Jim. I'll give it a try as soon as I get some clear skies.

Yes, you must be autoguiding first and use "pulse guide" instead of using ST4.

the ST4 commands are sent directly from the camera to the mount instead of through your computer first then through the handset. Pulse guiding is how you should set it up anyways it is much more accurate. IMHO

Matthew has it explained well......actually both ST4 and USBDirectSerial both send pulses but there are a couple features where ST4 have limits. When using planetary software, the use of Pulse guiding (not ST4) will educated the mount to know where you are in the sky.

I could be wrong but how I understood how St4 worked was based on relays, either on/off open/closed, and not PWM, instead of modulating the pulse the relays in a camera with St4 capabilities would turn power on and off to either the RA or Dec axis accordingly, depending on the correction error.

Like I said, could be wrong, just how I understood it.

All of the techno stuff is far above my paygrade...but according to Chris Shillito, developer of EQASCOM, both send pulses. Chris didn't feel one did a better job or the other. But he does say, the use of pulse guiding has the advantage of knowing where the scope is pointing in the sky. ...and for me, I think it does work better but would not know how to confirm this - gut feeling I guess.
