A while back someone asked me about setting up a boudoir photography section.
Is there much interest in such section at this time?

I'm not sure how many photographers we have here that do boudoir or want to learn about it.

So please let me know what you think.

What kind of guidelines will you have to make sure the section stays family friendly?

I'd love to be able to read the model's entire tattoo. However, this picture is very nicely done. Red finger nail polish that would match the red in her lingerie would be a nice touch too!

I don't do boudoir photography...(us raccoons sleep outside!!)..but it is part of photography, so it wouldn't bother me, as long as there was a special way to open it up!

"Family friendly" to one individual might be "obscene" to another. My question is, does admin have the tools to control access in some appropriate way?

I'm sure you'll have way more men interested in this than us ladies. While we are asked to do these shots, usually to keep men out of the mix until the photos are presented to a lucky mate or serious boyfriend, it's really not a subject I want to see much of. We, as women, already know what sexy is and well.... you are going to be making women the subject of most of this photography, right?

But then again, I suppose there would be no complaints from the female half of the forum if I start putting up male boudoir shots, right?? Then you guys might get an idea of what's sexy to us!! So just remember, this boudoir stuff can go both ways!!

If anyone doesn't want to see the section, they could choose not to subscribe in the first place. Another forum I'm on does it that way. I believe the other forum only shows that section for logged in members.

If you're going to start this section and as I know my suggestion is probably geared toward the "Post-Processing Tutorials and How-to-do-it Index" section, I would like to learn the process and how to get that "glamour" look. I'm talking about how to get the final look that would be published. I'm not a professional and I don't plan to be. But as an enthusiast, I'm trying to get the look I see a lot in Flicker or by professionals, but not sure how to get from point A to point B with my post processing work flow.

So I would like to see the before and after process (work flow) including what software was used and the thought process of the publisher. I'm looking for a training process more so than just pictures posted. Yes, boudoir pictures can be beautiful and subject to ones own views and opinions, but I want to see a training process if this is going to be implemented. I think it would be a great training tutorial for us enthusiast wanting to get to pro level without actually having to get into the "business".

Of course this could also be listed as a "glamour" section instead of boudoir but I'm sure that is not what your intended subject matter is. This is only my opinion and my interest in this subject!

Thanks for the suggestion and trying to make this forum better!

Dave

I'm sure you'll have way more men interested in th... (show quote)

Here is the definition of "boudoir" from Wiktionary:

---
Noun
boudoir ‎(plural boudoirs)

A woman's private sitting room, dressing room, or bedroom.

Usage notes
Strictly refers only to a woman’s room, but sometimes used informally or humorously by men to refer to their inner sanctum, as in The Big Sleep (1939), by American writer Raymond Chandler, where Philip Marlowe (the hero, a man) says (p. 53):

“Tut, tut,” I said. “Come into my boudoir.”

Coordinate terms
cabinet, study (male equivalent)
---

So while there may be a male equivalent of boudoir photos, I don't think the subject matter/focus/setting of the photos would be the same. I would expect scantily clad males would more likely be posed in a shower, gym or beach setting as opposed to in their "study". But hey, if you want to post some great looking male bodies to help define what sexy is, have at it!!!

Just as a side statement, my personal opinion is that the female body is more "visually appealing" than the male body. I don't know how much of this opinion has been shaped by the chauvenistic societal attitudes of the past (I would guess that most "photographers" in the past 100 years were males, and most would likely have been "concerned" about their image if they were photographing scantily clad males) or how much is simply natural instinct. In much of the animal world the male is showier than the female, probably to protect/camouflage her better during nesting/rearing of young. Perhaps humans have evolved such that the female puts on the show to attract a mate.

In any case, to answer the question posed by Admin, I have no objections to such a Section. And on the issue of how to control access, the kids who want to see such stuff for a thrill will find a way. The only real control that can be exercised is to have content vetted according to some guidelines before it is posted publicly.

I would not think it would be advisable as there in not a way I can think of to put limits or parameters on what is acceptable or not. There is always going to be some one that is going to push the limits. The Ladies on the forum should have the most input it would seem to me. The forum is a public service and a discourse for photography, so the argument could be made that it should be included. But on the other hand if some one wants some other form of photography, should they be denied. My personal opinion I would say that if it is not broke do not fix it.You could get into other problems with sexual orientation or practices it seems. A dangerous road to go down it seems to me.

Yes. I would think it is appropriate for this type of forum.
