Thank you. I just took a second look at this photo fully blown up. There is a little bug on the right side of the plant looking back towards the camera.
Very pretty. I have never seen a red one!

The color is what blew my mind. I have seen them in Northern Virginia but I think they were white.

I took one look, didn't know what it was, but, was willing to bet money the name involved "tri" somewhere.
Just looked up "trillium", many varieties, most white with colored markings, but blue, reds, purples, lavender, green etc.
And one article calls it the flower that can't be picked. Seems the bloom and the plant are very delicate and picking one damages the main plant, often to the point that it either dies or fails to mature and doesn't come back the next spring.

Interesting, I'm glad I did not pick any. I photographed a lot off Elk while I was up in the PA wilds. Beautiful country. I'll post some Elks latter, after I take a nap.
