A brand new shot of the Moon only minutes old.
I shot this handheld with the Nikon D800E and Tamron 150-600mm Lens
600mm, f/ 6.3, ISO 100, 1/200 sec.
Processed lightly in Lightroom and Cropped.

Nice job Craig.
See, hand held is not that tough with this lens.
(Been better with a Canon)

Thank you Europa, sorry I don't know your name yet.
The Tamron 150-600mm does all the hard work, all I have to do is point and shoot.
The Celestron 8300 is going to be a little more work with guiding and all.
And I do look forward to getting to work with it soon maybe tomorrow.

I think you are going to like the nightscape, really easy to use, along with AstroFX. Celestron just told me they can not repair mine, and they don't have a replacement. They are refunding me the full purchase price. Pretty nice of them, given the camera is 2 years old, and that I broke it.

My replacement is a QHY12, and I'm going to a local camp site the first week of May (Lake Piru). Hopefully can get some use out of it.

Wow Brian that is going to be one really nice Camera can't wait to see what you're able to get with it.
Lake Piru should afford you with some great skies to work with.
Hopefully I'll be going to Mt Figueroa that weekend.

Yes/No, I have a Celestron Rowe-Ackermann Astrograph (RASA), it is a dedicated "camera", not as fast as the HyperStar, but f/2.2. I assume for Deep Space, the difference between the f/2 and f/2.2 is negligible.

HyperStar is actually f/2.3 on my 9.25" f/10.
I hope someday to get that setup.

You will like it. But too fast for planets.

Oh yes I plan on using HyperStar for Deep Sky Objects.
For Planets I'll probably use a Barlow or Eyepiece Projection.

Nice Moon shot Craig... I'll be locked out for two weeks if the local weather forecast is correct...
extended forecast here is cloudy and rainy through the 15th of May... don't know what comes after the 15th...
extended forecast stopped on the 15th... one good thing... sometimes they are wrong... especially with long range forecasting!

P.S. Cloudy with rain right now!
