Too bad David Busch's Book is apparently out of print. The Friedman book is very good as well but I like David's just a bit better. David's is in color and was cheaper when it was available.

While I hesitate to even call it a "manual," the thickest document that comes with the A6000 must be the document we're meant to use for setting up and using the camera. It's trash.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a book on the A6000? Short of using YouTube for every setup, I'm at a loss. Such a simple task as shooting a set of exposures for HDR is extremely difficult. Helppppppppppppp!

The Sony A6000 was the first full featured camera I ever bought. For me it was difficult to learn since I didn't know anything about any camera above a point and shoot" but once I started getting it everything picked up pretty quickly. Still, it's a pretty sophisticated camera and could take awhile to learn to use every feature to it's best advantage.

Nice, but why do they have to make it so difficult. I still didn't see--although, I have to admit, my read was quick--"bracketing." Has Sony never heard of "Table of Contents" or "Index"?

I have several user's guides/manuals on both my desktop and notebook. I haven't used an index since manuals went digital.
Just press Ctrl + F and type in the word I'm looking for. If the first instance is not what I want, I click the arrow to go to the next one, etc.
Sometimes I'll have to think of a different word, but you'd have to do the same with a printed index.
Have a look here:

PS - The "A" of the model name seems to have been changed into "ILCE" - from what I saw on the website.

In recent years I have acquired Sony cameras and camcorders.
They have led the pack with innovation and great pictures and amazing prices.
What we all have probably learned is Sony documentation and their menu's are very disorganized. Subjects don't group in a rational manner like a Nikon. I use google and youtube for questions "how to" and evaluation on the camera's.
Now I have to ask everyone. I have Sony a7s $2500, lens an XDCAM, also the video AX100.
I recently bought this a6000 for $399. I still keep asking myself is this camera as good as I think it is? I wish it was FF but that doesn't seem to matter in the enjoyment of shooting with the 6000. I am trying to judge the video against the great breakthrough a7 series. a7rII and a7sII great to expensive right now. Could everything be done well with this camera?
One note use google and youtube. Yesterday watched a filmmaker explain the difference between the Lumix GH4 and the Sony a7s II. No manual or book could be any better then his insights into shooting hand helded for NG and others on boats with just small camera with a good lens. I have found everything I wanted to know on the net. Google is my resource for everything. Good luck

If you are interested, I have a guide produced by David Busch for the A6000. I will let it go for $20 plus shipping. PM me if interested. I traded my A6000 on. D7200.

The very best book written for that camera is Dave Busche's Guide to the Sony A6000. Order it from Amazon.com for about $32.00! It starts right at the very beginning and will teach you what every single feature, function, use, and customization is on that very great camera! You will be the Master of the A6000 by the time that you are just half way through it, And it's also fairly easy to read and to follow! Get it...

I agree. I have this book and I am still reading it. It is excellent.

However, I just looked it up on Amazon and they are asking over $100 for it now. I don't know why it's so high. If memory serves me, I bought mine at the local Barnes & Noble for about $29.

When I first looked at their 'in the box' manual, I figured I was looking at a table of contents. In he menues as well as eksewhere the little ? button gives a tiny description or what the figue passes as a description. I regard it as a reminder for me to remember. There are two boxs, one by Friedman the other by Busch. I have both as e-books on my iPad - both are too thick for lugging around. The Sony downloadable e-manual has an internal link system that only goes the 'to' direction, no 'back' direction. It is fairly conprehensive. The two commercial books have 'too-much-auther' material such that both could be half the thickness easily. Both remind me of the 'cookbook' type of book.

You see "a" instead of Greek alpha and ILCE is Sony's official designation.

If it's only $100 - buy it, and fast....
See: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=David+Busch&sts=t&tn=Sony+A6000

(I don't think the price here, is an error. I've seen other books with ridiculous prices. One wonders if the pages are secretly gold-plated, or if they used tiny diamonds instead of periods at the end of the sentences).

I have the Sony a6000 and also purchased Friedman's book. Without his extraordinarily thorough book the camera would still be something of a mystery to me. The camera is very hard to figure out without something in depth. Sony's philosophy with their manuals seems to be go out and buy a book if you really want to understand the camera.

I downloaded a 209 page help guide in PDF format. Printed it in booklet format and took it to Staples where they spiral bound it. Total cost $6.00 + printing supplies. You can also take the PDF on a thumbdrive to them and they will do the whole magilla. Cost =???
Here is da link.

Enjoy your 6000 I love mine.
