I have not given it a title as yet.

Taken with a Canon 50D and 300 2.8 IS.
AV = 2.8

Technically it looks OK, possibly it could be a bit sharper.

Esthetically I like the the POV and thge clean background, however the out of focus vegetaton covering the body of the bird is a major distracton from rthe bird, especially the long brown bit.

Thank you sir.

I was wondering what others think about the stalk as a distraction or of interest. I don't like to edit out items that I don't necessarily want in the picture. I feel that the rest of the details make up for it.

The stalks are distracting...funny what the human eyes moves to when you see an image...my first thought about the picture is "what is that thing there?"

Yes, I think the bird is beautiful, but if it were me I would have to pass it by because of the OOF grass in front of it. Everything else in the photo is gorgeous.

hi, BigBear,

I'm afraid that the first things the judges will notice are:

1. The OOF lump of foreground ...moss-covered-something, as well as the stems of vegetation in front of your subject distract significantly from your subject, the bird..

2. The bird's detail is soft.

3. the only item in sharp focus is the bright green seedling.

It's a good shot but 2 things bother me. Sharpness and that stalk growing out of his head

if I were judging this, I'd see the out of focus foreground and move on. The bird and the in-focus sprig are nice, but all that OOF stuff sort of eliminates it.

Being from the western world, I am more comfortable with a left to right orientation. I would flip it so the bird is looking to our right.

As for the out of focus foreground it is not the subject; OOF is just fine.

Thank you for your input. I pictured it without the grass and thought it would be boring.

The composition is quite nice, but the foreground leaves a lot to be desired. This includes the fuzzy grass between the camera and the subject.

Without the grasses I would have a bird pasted on a dark background. How interesting would that be ??
