got a 1 1/2mm bug/grub at 3:1, trying to show leg detail and just plain failing.
Any suggestions on how to properly light this one to show legs?
At this angle, little to no contrast of leg color against insect body.
I suggest angling insect to 45-degrees or more, to camera lens.
At 90-degrees, the legs would be contrasted against background.
I would suggest higher magnification. Insect at 1.5 mm should fit nicely on an APS-C sensor at 10x lifesize. I think cropping that much may be the problem. Keep in mind that this is only a suggestion as I'm still trying to get a handle on higher mag photos.
Rotated body 30 degrees, raised macro to 5:1 on ASP-C sensor.
This bug just ain't going to cooperate.
Did manage to bring up hair detail though and yes his tail hairs are dotted with distinct white spots.

The dotted lines in upper left corner are stacking artifacts i forgot to remove.
I spaced frames at 10um for the front half of bug but switched to 33um for the rear quarter by discarding frames (did not use subsets) so stacking program got confused. My bad.
