Male Phidippus Otiosus Focus-Stack

I finally got time alone in the house and wanted to take advantage of that by getting some jumpers out to shoot.

This Phidippus Otiosus (male) was tucked away in the corner of his container so, I grabbed a few shots before disturbing him and it's a good thing I did, because he is very active and I did not want to loose him in the house, then have to go through divorce proceedings when my wife or girls found it. So, I put him away for another day.

This is a "more or less" unplanned stack of 11 images handheld. Eight would have likely been enough (some were redundant). It doesn't look too bad from a distance but, upon closer inspection, you can easily see the "gotchas" Something is better than nothing I suppose :-)

You can never have to many stacks with all the fine hair, it's a bear. I find that 28 shots in place of 20 shots for the same distance gives a better finished product. A single shot of a focused hair will sometimes appear ghosted/sort of transparent. 2 focus shots of the same hair gives it a much deeper solid color, especially white/light colored hairs.. Practice makes perfect......
A Good start Bill.

This needs to be downloaded to show how good and focused it is. I can see that avoiding losing them in the house is a big problem, I wouldn't like to think of you out on the street at Christmas.

Thanks all :-) If you download & enlarge, the gotchas become more apparent. It did take a bit of "retouching" and I only used one frame for the web because it was all over the place :|
