I have Lightroom 6 and Photoshop Elements but I was wondering if there is any merit in going g to the CC version with Photoshop' I hate to sound stupid but I don't think I understand how the CC version works with Creative Cloud. Does that mean I have to use Creative Cloud for my picture storage?

My biggest concern is just how much this will increase my internet usage. I am on a limited amount of usage every month and I am always close to using it up.

I use cc. You don't have to use their cloud for storage. I don't. Basically, you will install the cc version into your computer and use it off line. Then you can update as it updates the program. The nice thing is that you get photoshop and lightroom. For me that is worth it as I use both. I suppose it is about whether you want to shell out the money for the program and then upgrade eventually or pay monthly forever. lol

Creative Cloud does not mean you need to store anything on cloud storage, nor do you run programs "on the cloud". by subscribing to Adobe CC, you get software that is downloaded and installed on your computer, it runs on your computer, checking in with the "cloud" to confirm subscription membership every x days, your images remain where you want them.

Internet usage, no increase other than the initial download and future upgrade downloads of the software packages.

I subscribed over a year ago to the photographers package, Lightroom, Bridge, Photoshop, all full versions for $10.00 a month. For that price I have had a full version of Photoshop that I would say, while still no where near an expert, am much more comfortable and proficient at using now :)

My image library is only about 35,000 images, all stored on my local hard drive, my software is all stored and run from my local hard drives. Have not had much of an issue at all since going the CC route. Actually, it is nice to always get the latest and greatest without needing to run out and buy a new version.

I have been upgrading PhotoShop every other version since Adobe first put their name to it. What bothers me about the new marketing process, if I understand it correctly, is that once you stop paying your software is disabled. You can't decide that the newest update is all you need.

Unless or until Adobe explains it differently I'll stick with what I have. I don't rent my home, my car, my cameras, etc. I don't want to rent my software.

I know it might be an age thing. A lot of younger people I know are comfortable with ongoing payments and never owning anything. :)

Thanks to all of you. I think I'v got it now. When I first read about this subscription system I didn't like it but when I realized that it includes a full version of PhotoShop I think that impressive.

I am going to order it.

Of course you do know that all that software you think you own... you don't ;) Nope, you made a 1 time payment to be allowed to USE it

For 10.00 a month, I have access to top of the line software that is updated and upgraded at no cost as long as I maintain my monthly subscription, and for my money, what I get is a pretty sweet deal. Add up the cost for all the software and it is easy to see why subscribing is a good deal for many.

BTW - I rent my house - yep, I pay the mortgage payment every month :)

I find it interesting that you feel that you would be owed a fully functioning version even after you paid a fraction of the cost for a monthly subscription.

Exactly! :) For Lightroom alone, not worthwhile, but throw in Photoshop and it is tough to beat.

Good deal.

Well said, I agree 100%. And have you seen how many posts on negative issues with CC version compared to stand alone ( purchased) LR 6?

Just to clarify, by subscribing to Adobe CC you get the right to download and install the software on your computer, along with updates as available. You don't have to update if you don't want to, although in most cases you would probably want to.

It's not a good deal, IMO. It's a great deal.

I'm sticking with LR6 - purchased version. I don't like renting anything, but that's just me. If you stop paying, you stop processing. When LR6 becomes outdated or incompatible with more modern equipment, I'll look elsewhere for processing software.

You'll pay at least $120 for the first year. Buying LR6 from Amazon would cost $143. I prefer to buy directly from the Adobe site so I know I can download it in the future, if necessary. If you look at the Adobe site, it will be difficult to find a place to purchase LR6. They want you to rent it.

Elements only works in 8 bits Photoshop can go to 16 bits.

I agree with everything you say but there is the fact if I make a one-time payment I can use the software forever. If I do monthly payments with CC what happens if I stop making payments?

My concern is that not only are you subject to the monthly rental fee, you are really at the mercy of what the future charges may be. Like my homeowners association dues that have increased from $75 per month to $190 in just a few years. For my purposes I will just keep on using LR6 and CS6 which I have had for several years now. They are both more program than I will ever understand or completely use!
