Too light or too dark. If I shoot 4 shots in a row, 1st one will be good, the next 3 will be over exposed. A couple will be too dark. Sometimes I could see the aperture stop down after a shot. Is this normal?
No, the aperture should be all done and dusted, sounds like may be sticky, also not sure on the nikon system, is there any way to activate blades manually, should be snappy and smooth if there is a way.
I take it this is with just the lens or tubes still, shouldn't make any difference to be fair but working through progressively, also is it the same on both bodies still?

First I will try my 105 and see if it does it with that lens. I thought it might be the flash but maybe i just wore out my 150 macro.

If you decide it is your 150-mm lens acting-up, consider consulting with Rick Riggins in Colorado Springs CO, to see if he can service it for you.

no problems with the 105,now the hard decision of getting the 150 fixed buying a new one (i would get a new old stock without OS like i have now) or maybe try a tamron 180 macro

I don't know how you hold your rig when shooting but is it possible that your pinkey finger is hitting the DOF preview button? I've done that on several occasions.
