When the Titanic was first discovered, those involved were quite amazed that the swimming pool was still full of water.

Yes, I heard that. Robert Ballard of Woods Hole Oceanographic (who first found the ship) was quite perplexed by this. He theorized that as the ship's bow nosed up while it was sinking, all the water flowed out of the swimming pool. Then as the ship sank, it scraped the side of the iceberg, filling it with ice. After the ship settled at the bottom, the ice melted and refilled the swimming pool. It must have taken quite a while, as the sea water at that depth is very near the freezing temperature of water.
