Hi, I've had this camera for a while now. I bought it with the 16/50 and the 55/320 lenses. Over all, I'm very happy with the quality of the pictures I manage to get, but I'd like to try other ways. Here is what I want to do:
I' want to use a different brand of lens (legacy glass?), and I don't care much for AF. In fact, that is how I always focused before going digital. I'm thinking Minolta MD lenses because a friend of mine gave me an adapter, and also A mount lenses. Looking at pictures I see that the A lenses look similar to the E type bayonet mount. Can I use them on the A6000 without an adapter?
As for adapters, I'm aware of the Metabones, but they are too expensive for what I want to do.
Thank you in advance, and sorry for the long post

You will need adapters. There are many cheaper than Metabones that do the same thing. You will need an adapter with Minolta A lenses. The best adapters for Minolta A are the Sony adapters (expensive). The cheaper non-Sony adapters will work but you have to sort of guess as to exactly what aperture you are using. You MUST have aperture control with whatever adapter you use.

^^^Pretty much covers everything.
I would only add, Google "Sony NEX adaptors" and "a6000 to Minolta MD/MC adaptors".
There are LOTS of brands and price ranges available.
GOOD LUCK!

You shouldn't have to spend more than $15 for an adapter on Amazon. This is the one I bought for Nikon lenses:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003X1FSCS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00And this is what I bought for my old Minolta MC/MD/SR mount lenses:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00870NQRO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00They both work great.
I think you will need an adapter to use Sony A mount lenses also.
Thank you all! I think I sorted it out. Now I'd like to know if it is possible to attach a A-mount sony lens to the A6000 directly without an adapter. I'm aware that it will turn it into manual focus as well as A priority setting...
Thank you again

I have been using an old Minolta Rokkor MC mount 50mm f1.4 with my Sony A6000 and it has been a fabulous experience. I had to buy a cheap adapter, which always stays on the lens. Its all manual, Focus Peaking at F1.4 is so incredibly easy. Then I change the aperture to what I want.
Hi JimH123. Can this lens (mc) be mounted using a MD mount? I read about this lenses, but it's not clear to me if the MC and MD are the same adapter wise....

For the a mount lenses you want an LA-EA4 adapter for aps-c format. I would suggest the LA-EA4. More expensive but full frame, incase you ever decide to go full frame wit one of the A7's.
Full lens function.
But he said he didn't need autofocus.

You don't have to use it, and he was talking about the older lenses. You need the auto functions with the a mount as there is no aperture ring.

It is not possible to mount A lenses to E bodies without an adapter. For less than 15 dollars you can buy a perfectly usable albeit manual adapter for your camera to use those lenses although the one I have does have aperture control on the adapter. If you're using your camera in aperture preferred mode, the camera will be in the equivalent of "stop down". As for legacy glass, I've had wonderful results with the East German Zeiss "Aus Jena" glass available pretty cheaply on Ebay.
My first post should have said LE-AE2 for ASP-C and yes you can buy a cheap ring with aperture, but if you're spending the money for A-mount lenses just seems you'd want full function as an option.
