GREAT photographs, really good, but being a former sailor, just have to make two corrections. 1. That's not the engine order telegraph. It's for controlling the lines (ropes) to tie the ship up. 2. On a ship it's a ladder, not a stairway.

These are beautiful pictures. And I appreciate your post. A little bit of info. "HMS" Her/His Majesty's Ship is a preface reserved for warships of the Royal Navy. HMS Queen Mary was a battle cruiser that fought in WWI. The proper title is "RMS" or Royal Mail Ship. The proper name of Titanic was
RMS Titanic. RMS is used for commercial vessels.
