This might be why SOME people overshop there. :)

1. I don't have an IKEA where I live (wish I did because they have some things I could use)

2. When I am able to go to one - I'm selective about what I pick up. (and no, I don't make a list)

The list at the end is good to use no matter where you're shopping.

3. I'm actually moving to a location where I will have access to IKEA. A good thing because I need to redo a kitchen, and furnish a house.

I, too, would like to have an Ikea nearby. When I do grocery shopping, I always use a list and go early. My goal is to get in, shop, and get home in under two hours. If that means knocking down a few slowpokes in the aisles, so be it.

During a vacation my wife and I went into an Ikea store in Carson, California. While there we spoke to a local lady who said that most every person she knew who shopped at Ikea had realized the frustration of walking thru the whole store to buy one or two items.
They then realized they should go into the store thru the out aisle and avoid the normal store routing. They found what they wanted and avoided the long walk past items which prompted impulse buying. They then took the fast way out by crossing to the out aisles at each level.
Sounded like good advice to me.

Strange, the last time I went to IKEA I went specificallly to buy some new drawer and cupboard handles for my bathroom cabinets. I walked all the way through the store and exited having purchased some new drawer and cupboard handles for my bathroom cabinets.

Laying out a certain way has been done not just in Ikea but almost every major chain store. They also paint certain colors for men"s shops and especially for women. The first thing you usually encounter when going into a supermarket is the aroma of fresh baked bread. The cereals are stacked for kids . Have you ever noticed that the sugary cereals are at kids height and the healthy ones are up high.?Your have aromas all over the supermarkets to keep your senses sharp so you'll by more. There's a reason for the bakery at the front entrance and the deli (pizzas, soups etc.)on the other side away from the bakery. And the list does not stop there. They have people hired that all they do is setups.

Laying out a certain way has been done not just in... (show quote)

Right. The cheapest, lowest profit items are never within easy reach.

I have an IKEA store right by my house. I have absolutely no interest in ever going in.
