Total scam. They are trying to get access and control of your computer.

I got a very similar call on the 24th. I didn't let him finish before I "hung up" on him.

Since they call regularly, I feel I can have some fun with them at their own expense...

Windows, you say? Oh, we had the window washer here yesterday, my windows are sparkling clean...

Computer? Yes, I've heard that word, can you please explain what a computer is?

Borrowed from someone else here on the Hog: What do I have on my computer? Welllll... let's see, there's a document that says I shouldn't be dealing with scammers....

I turn on my thickest Dutch accent, throw in a Dutch word here and there... or a German word...

In every case they finally get the message that I'm playing with them and hang up on me. Unfortunately they are the dumbest people anywhere, they can't seem to learn as they keep calling me......

I got a call like that from someone with an Asian accent who said his name was "Charlie." And I said, "Sure it is."
He went through the same spiel and I let him go on to explain that when some bad person tries to hack my computer, it raises a flag at MS. He wants to help me keep bad people from attacking my computer. And then the rub, he just wanted for me to allow him to access my computer and fix the problem. That's when I told him to get a real job and hung up on him. The next day I got a call from (apparently) his brother Michael. Short conversation.
Glad you didn't fall for it.

Yes Indi, I have had many times calls from "saviors" that offer their "help". Just ignore them. Your computer has already the basic to control and advise you if something is wrong.
Basically if you did not ask for help from an specific site, someone is trying to get you.

Yes, happened to me. I told him I was in front of my pc and pretended to do what he asked. Then I told him something not so nice and hung up.

...snip...I doubt it slows them down but makes me feel a bit better :). I've been tempted to give them a blast from an air horn, but don't want to risk blowing out the phone mike.

A blow on a scout's whistle might achieve the same thing without damage to the phone mike...

I blame the phone companies and their greed. They have the ability to put a stop to phone scams. They never will, because it will cut into their pockets!

this guy is a crook , got involve with him last year , figured that something was wrong when he started to make treats , if i did not let him fix my pc for a fee he would shut it down .it started with a message from MS , that said my pc was infected and infecting other pc s .your next scam is going to be a call from the IRS saying that you owe some back taxes , and if you dont respond within a hour , they will send the police to your house to arrest you .on this one i found where this came from [ red wood city ] and had the phone number , went to the cops , and they had no interest to do anything about it .so in my opinion , both side are guilty .

I just received a strange phone call from (Supposedly) a Microsoft rep/agent.
A gentleman with a distinct Indian accent called a little while ago. He told me that my computer was infected with malware and/or viruses and he was calling from MS to help me. He told me to press the Windows key and type something like eventxxx at the prompt. I told him that I was very leery about typing anything in and running any program at someone who purportedly represents Microsoft.
He then told me that he knew my unique ID number and told me to write it down. He the told me to run MSCONFIG from the prompt and type in ASSOC which would match the number he gave me beforehand and prove he was legit. While he was talking to me I looked at the reports from Malwarebytes and Norton and they showed nothing.
I then told him that I very reluctant to do anything he suggested via a "phone call from Microsoft."
I said that unless I received an official email from MS, I wasn't going to run any programs from someone who made a personal call to me.
He said goodbye and hung up.
I then decided to back check the number he called me from and the app said it was an invalid number.
Has anything similar happened to any of you?
What are your thoughts?
I just received a strange phone call from (Suppose... (show quote)

Once upon a time I foolishly bit. I gave them permission to deal with the "problems" they claimed to have discovered at a cost of $250. It only took several hundred dollars to correct their "fixes." When they call now I tell them my story with outrage in my voice. They hang up.

I don't answer any caller'e number I don't know that shows on my caller ID, I let the answer machine take the message, 99% of time they hung up! I won't waste my time to talk to them!

I and people I know well from Houston, TX, have probably received an aggregate total of more than 100 such calls during recent months. I suggest you hang up immediately when you receive one.

This, and several other calls seem to be becoming pervasive recently.

I have had several of similar calls, so when they say my computer has a problem, I tell them I have no problem and goodbye.

it's a shame that these people have nothing better to do than mess with other peoples computers. Some of those low lives want nothing but to put a virus on your system. Insult their momma or something or tell them your Homeland Security a to hold on a second and just push a couple of buttons on your phone to imitate a trace and usually they will hang up. scum is what they are, pure scum.
